NRMA director Kate Carnell resigns

A shake-out at the top of the NRMA continues with board member, Kate Carnell, resigning as a director of the company.

Ms Carnell's resignation comes weeks after Nick Whitlam resigned as the company's president after being found guilty of breaching corporations law.

Newcastle Trades Hall Council president Kath Evans was appointed as a casual director at a board meeting in Sydney yesterday.

It was the first board meeting under the Presidency of Maree Callaghan.

Board member Doug Sutherland says he surprised by Ms Carnell's resignation and suspects recent division within the board is to blame.

"Kate Carnell is a person who has a political future, she's politically ambitious and would like to have a fulfilling role in politics, and I think this would just end up as the mark of Cain to her," he said.

"It wasn't going to help her politically, she probably wasn't obtaining much personal satisfaction out of it."

Mr Sutherland says Ms Carnell has not given an explanation for her resignation.

"No, she didn't to me or to the board as such to the board members, but the chairman of the board Maree Callaghan said she had handed in a letter of resignation so there may be something in that letter," he said.
