Largely a rural riding along the eastern shores of Georgian Bay runs
from Severn River in SW to Lake Nipissing in NE, with Algonguin Park
running through most eastern part of the riding.
Some of the larger centres: Parry Sound, Gravenhurst, Huntsville and
Bracebridge. Riding also contains many native reserves.
Riding's many lakes (Muskoka Lakes, Lake of Bays, etc) and part of
Georgian Bay Island National Park in SW corner of riding, make tourism
a major industry.
Lumber and forestry products also are important to the local economy.



After 1976 redistribution, riding consisted of 99% Parry Sound and
1% Renfrew North-Nipissing East.
After 1986 redistribution, riding consisted of 100% of old riding.
In 1996 redistribution:
- kept 91% of riding; 9% moved to Nipissing
- added .5% of Victoria-Haliburton and 4 persons from Nipissing.




PC GORDON AITKEN from 1957-1968 incl.
In 1972, PC STAN DARLING was first elected. DARLING was re-el in 1974.
In 1979, 1980 and 1984, PC DARLING def LIB ED FISHER.
In 1988, PC DARLING def LIB JAMIE McGARVEY by 4,846 votes.
Darling did not run in 1993.
In 1993, LIB ANDY MITCHELL def REF JIM NEWMAN by 7,405 votes.
