As with many of my more recent news postings, this one starts off with my apologies for there being no updates for a few months. The site usually slows down a bit during the summer as I like to head down to the beach & build sand castles/play in the sea & whilst the weather has been far from summery, I've been extremely busy over the last few months & haven't been able to dedicate as much time to the site as I'd like.
I'm going to try my hardest to get into a monthly update pattern &will be publishing some new guides that I'm halfway through authoring, detailing the legalities of pirate radio & some 'masterclass' guides getting into the finer points of modern day pirate radio management. Watch the forum for draft copies of my new scribblings coming very soon.
I'm getting a lot of mail at the moment & not much time to answer it, so please be patient if I don't reply for a few days, I'd like to remind some of you as well, that I cannot supply you with broadcast equipment & am unable to pass on details of someone who can. Please use the forum for requests of this nature.
I found an excellent pirate radio related article at Urban75.com that I urge you all to read, especially if you have an interest in the politics surrounding UK radio. Many of the points raised describe my feelings towards UK radio legislation perfectly. Here's one of my favourite paragraphs from it:
The pirates can be stopped speedily if chosen but are obviously left alone for long periods because of the lack of political content in the majority of them. The radio authority argument against the pirates often heard is that they interfere with ambulance radio and air traffic control. This is really just a smokescreen, if they are such a problem why is the entire London FM spectrum flooded with pirates when the transmitters can be traced and stopped?
To read the whole thing, head over to this page at urban75.com, the rest of the sites a good read as well, so tear your self away from searching for porn & warez & have a look through.
I've made a minor addition to the audio page but it's a good one :D A very classy garage set recorded of Apple FM 104.6 (London) in early 1994. Garage didn't really get much of a look in amongst the jungle pirates which saturated the FM dial in 93/94, but gradually by the late 90's they were the dominant mainstay of pirate radio. This recording is from waaaay back at the start of the UK pirate garage movement & makes for a good listen, especially if you love the deep soulful sound of garage. Stream it by clicking this link, or you can download it here (20mb - Real media encoded at high bit rate).

Since the demise of DXradio's FM guide & Pi8radio.co.uk, it's become increasingly difficult to find up to date reliable London pirate radio FM guides. I only have a scant knowledge of who's broadcasting in the capital & was amazed on a visit to Hackney over the weekend to find a few new stations that seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.
Sooooo, i'm looking to restart the Y2K Pirates London FM Guide & this is where you come in. I need reliable fortnightly reports of who you can hear on the radio in London. Ideally I need a few committed individuals who'll can provide me with accurate reports on what stations they can hear, whether they have RDS/stereo & other relevant tidbits of information.
I'm working on a swish new page for the FM Guide which will allow some of you to enter stations directly onto the FM Guide so it can be instantly updated. If you'd like to assist with my new 'premium' FM Guide please send me mail, or MSN me (telprogression@hotmail.com)
I've added an excellent pirate documentary to the Audio page. It originally aired in the Dreem Teams show on Radio 1 in 2000 & is very well produced. Featuring interviews with John Peel, Ramsey & Fen, the DTI, DJ Hype & many more, it gives the listener an informed knowledgeable overview of UK Pirate radio & is well worth a listen. Click here to stream it, or here to download.
Now i've managed to keep the site up for more than a couple of weeks at a time, the Forums started to get busy again, which is a good thing, but I need to make a few things clear regarding posters conduct: Racism will not be tolerated on the Forum & any posts asking for the supply of Gerda keys will be deleted (I have my reasons for this).
Newcomers are more than welcome to register & start asking beginner questions, but as with most Forums, fools will not get a welcome reception. If you continually piss other posters off, expect to be banned, if your new/just registered, lurk for a few days & see what others are posting & how the happy y2k pirates forum crew interacts :D there's a new release of the forum software that's used at y2k pirates & i'm currently evaluating it here if you'd like a sneak preview.

Towerblock dreams created a lot of controvesy when it was aired on BBC 3 a couple of weeks ago & inspired one of the longest threads ever created on the Y2K Pirates forum. This particular episode features MC Gambit & of more interest to you lot, Killa from the now defunct Y2K Essex FM. There's lots of pirate radio content & whilst I dont regard it to be an accurate portrayal of how the majority of stations are run nowadays, it certainly makes for interesting viewing.
The creation of this digital copy was a joint project between myself & Virtual Hi-Fi. My thanks goes to DJ Skunk who kindly took the time to encode & host the video & also to DJ Reload & Kenny who provided me with digital copies. It's been split into three parts that are roughly 20mb in size. Please note that you can view our copy of towerblock dreams online, but at this time it isn't available for download.
You'll need a Real player to view the files. Because I love you all so much, I took the time to find the direct link to download the free real player, download it here if you dont have a copy. I know none of you bothered to read the above blurb, so here's the damn files: Towerblock Dreams Part 1 Towerblock Dreams Part 2 Towerblock Dreams Part 3
