. > News › US Marine Corps RST-V Hybrid Tactical Vehicle .
.
By Jason at 12:14 PM on Wednesday, November 17, 2004
The US Marine Corps' first 4x4 hybrid-electric tactical vehicle - the Shadow RST-V - has been tested by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and may soon challenge the Humvee as the dominant vehicle for military use.

The Reconnaissance, Surveillance and Targeting Vehicle (RST-V) is a high mobility, electric drive technology demonstrator that incorporates a lightweight diesel engine coupled to a permanent-magnetic generator which drives four in-hub permanent-magnet electric wheel motors. The RST-V is ideally suited as a reconnaissance vehicle, as its lithium-ion battery pack enables silent movement for upwards of 20 miles with extremely low thermal and acoustic signatures.

Lithium Technology Corporation, ("LTC", "the Company") (OTC Bulletin Board: LTHU), a leading participant in the rapidly emerging large-format rechargeable lithium battery market, today announced that it has introduced a 288-volt HEV battery this week at the 2004 Munich Electronics Trade Fair.

LTC's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Franz Kruger, stated at a press conference in Munich that he expects the battery, developed by LTC's GAIA Europe Unit in Nordhausen, Germany, to replace other energy storage devices in the next generation of hybrid vehicles. Another one of LTC's GAIA brand HEV batteries was used by the Penn State University Future Truck Team in the 2004 Future Truck Competition held at Ford Motor Company's Proving Ground in June 2004 (see LTC press release of July 15, 2004).

The Toyota Prius has been voted 2005 Car of the Year by the 58 members of the European Car of the Year Jury. After 2 rounds of voting, the car was chosen from a list of 7 finalists and declared clear winner after gathering 406 points.

Tadashi Arashima, President and CEO of Toyota Motor Marketing Europe said: "We are absolutely delighted to receive the 2005 Car of the Year award for Prius. We believe that hybrid technology, in particular as implemented in the Prius with our revolutionary Hybrid Synergy Drive® system, represents a big step forward in reducing the environmental impact of automobiles, while at the same time enhancing driving performance. We are proud and honored that Prius has been endorsed so strongly by the prestigious group of journalists who make up the Car of the Year jury. .
By Jason at 12:12 PM on Sunday, November 14, 2004
No longer a funky little science experiment, hybrid cars are growing up and going mainstream -- and the future is all about hot-rod horsepower. In Detroit and Tokyo, carmakers are finally starting to take the demand for greater energy independence and fuel efficiency seriously by building powerful hybrid cars that consumers want to drive, Newsweek reports in our latest "Next Frontiers" package in the November 22 issue (on newsstands Monday, Nov. 15).

Carmakers are banking on their compelling new pitch-drives great, less filling-to take hybrids to the masses. The coming wave of new hybrids is all about getting more-more power, more mileage, more credit for saving the planet, reports Detroit Bureau Chief Keith Naughton. The first of these have- your-cake-and-eat-it models arrives next month, when Honda rolls out a 255-horsepower Accord hybrid that races from 0 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds and still gets 37mpg on the highway.
