THE OK SODA PAGE!

Alright, so OK Soda no longer exists. Its life span was only a few months. But hey, it was great while it lasted. This is my shrine to the best soft drink there ever was. Some might say it was more than a drink.... it was a state of mind. After all, when someone drinks OK Soda, they tend to get an overwhelming feeling of ok-ness...

THE OK SODA LEGACY

I discovered OK Soda back in '94, when it was first released in selected areas for testing. One of those areas happened to be my hometown: Portland, Oregon. My stepbrother brought home a few cans, and I was hooked right away. I loved the taste and the cans, which featured crazy drawings by cartoonist Daniel Clowes. Everything was okay until, all of a sudden one horrible morning, I turned to the business section of the newspaper and saw an article announcing the end of OK Soda. It didn't sell enough. Though it sold a million cases in the selected markets, apparently that's not enough to meet Coca-Cola's expectations. I saved a few empty cans so I wouldn't forget it.

"IT'S JUST A DRINK," THEY SAY. "WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL??"

Yeah, sure, just a drink. Not! It was a philosophy, a commentary on pop culture. I suppose, if the Coca-Cola company suddenly stopped making Coke, I could say "it was just a drink," right?

THE NEXT BEST THING

It's gone, and there's not really anything I can do about that, but I found a soda company that has a similar marketing style: Jones Soda. Except, they use glass bottles, and there are tons of flavors such as Orange, Strawberry Lime, and Green Apple. The labels are black and white, and each bottle has a different photo on it. I recommend the Cream Soda. It'll never fill the void, but it's still pretty good. www.jonessoda.com

ABOUT THIS PAGE
For years, the best OK Soda resource was The OK Soda Homepage. That site, which was located at http://spleen.mit.edu/ok.html had a wealth of information about the soda, which now resides in the Big Vending Machine in the Sky. I tried to get to the site not long ago, but it was shut down with the following message:

The pages previously hosted by spleen.mit.edu no longer exist. The server's hard drive took a nasty spill after a power outage on November 18, 1999. Unfortunately, the backups are lost, so the pages are never expected to return.

If you're here for the "OK Soda" webpages, they're gone. If you're looking for some specific information regarding OK Soda, you can try mailing the original author at quark@mit.edu.

I know -- it's a shame, alright. But fear not, fellow OK Soda fans (and I know you guys are out there, I've received many emails), I'm on a mission to gather everything I can find about the soda and post it all right here. This site may never be quite as complex as The OK Soda Homepage, but I'll do my best.

NOTE TO YAHOO!: Hey you bums, you never added my site to your directory! I'm disappointed.
