Visa Application Information

1. Participants are responsible for securing the necessary Indian visa and transit visas. Participants are advised to apply for an Indian visa at least one (1) month before the date of travel to India.

2. All countries except Nepal are required to get a Visa to enter India.

3. Visa Requirements:

  1. Visa Application Form to be obtained from the Indian Embassy nearest you (or visit http://indianpassport.nic.in/ ).
  2. Invitation Letter from the Better Air Quality (BAQ) 2004 Secretariat (Manila).

NOTE: Sponsored participants will automatically receive invitation from the BAQ 2004 Secretariat (Manila) and are requested NOT to contact the Secretariat. Self-funded participants who require an invitation letter, please contact Charles Simbillo at cfsimbillo@adb.org.

  1. Letter from the sponsoring organization stating that participant’s expenses will be funded by the organization. The BAQ 2004 Secretariat will coordinate the issuance of such letters, where required, to sponsored participants in BAQ 2004.
  2. Visa fee (estimated at US$40 to US$60); some visa offices require that payment of visa fee be in the form of a demand draft so it is important for the participant to check the exact requirements with the visa office.
  3. Participant’s Passport should be valid for at least 6 months from date of expected travel (entry and exit) to India

4. BAQ 2004 Secretariat (Manila) will assist the participant in securing the necessary visas. The Asian Development Bank’s Travel Section will issue a "Note Verbale" to facilitate the visa application. For this purpose, participants need to send the following information to the BAQ 2004 Secretariat (Manila):

  1. Name on Passport
  2. Nationality
  3. Passport number
  4. Date of Issue
  5. Date of Expiry
  6. Place where Passport was Issued
  7. Date of Birth
  8. Formal Name of Indian Embassy in your country (e.g. "Embassy of India in Jakarta, Indonesia" or "General Consulate of India in Hong Kong") Visit MEA Link – Missions and Posts Abroad at http://indianpassport.nic.in/
  9. Street Address of the Indian Embassy
  10. Telephone number of the Indian Embassy
  11. Fax number of the Indian Embassy (very important)

You can also provide your passport details by email or fax.

5. BAQ 2004 Secretariat-Manila will send a copy of the "Note Verbale" via facsimile and/or scanned image of the "Note Verbale" to the participant.

6. Participant needs to submit visa application with other requirements (including the Note Verbale from the Asian Development Bank) to the Indian embassy or visa office.

7. Generally, it will take 5-7 working days to process the Indian visa.

8. Transit Visa. In some cases, participants will be required to secure a transit visa. Participant should inform the BAQ2004 Secretariat (Manila) so that the ADB Travel Section can issue a "Note Verbale" for the Transit Visa. Step 5 follows. Participant can now apply for Transit Visa. The participant needs to check with the relevant visa office for information on where they can apply for the transit visa.
