Ragan Walters hit a 37-yard field goal with seven seconds remaining

end zone as Walters hit two field goals and Chaz Williams returned a

Roundup
Arkansas State: Did the Indians
letdown a little bit when it found out UNT star RB Jamario
Thomas wasn't going to play? Probably not, but it can't be
happy with the overall performance in the final game of the
year failing to generate much offense on the soft Mean Green
D. The defense never came up with a big stop and couldn't gain
any momentum. QB Nick Noce wasn't sharp over the last few
games of the year. … Idaho: It was a solid first
year under Nick Holt as major improvements were made on both
sides of the ball, but the team can't be happy to end the
season like it did against Hawaii failing to score in the
second half and not doing anything against the Warrior passing
attack. Even so, considering the Vandals were without RB
Jayson Bird and closing out the year on the beach, it wasn't a
horrible performance ... for a half. … MTSU: MTSU
had such a great offensive season that it's a shame it had to
end with such a sour note against Troy. The team was in the
game before the two pick-sixes in the third quarter put it out
of reach, and now the Blue Raiders had to go into the
off-season after a losing year. This wasn't a horrible season,
but it could’ve been something special had the team rallied
for wins early on against Florida Atlantic and UL Lafayette. … New Mexico State: It's a shame that Buck
Pierce's great season had to end on a pick-six. Utah State
played well, but NMSU will be kicking itself for all the
penalties and turnovers that killed several chances to stop
the early second half momentum. Considering this was the last
game of the season, the team should've been far crisper. … North
Texas: The
win over Arkansas State showed just how mentally tough North
Texas can be. It wasn't playing for anything since the Sun
Belt title was all wrapped up, yet it went out and played a
sharp game on both sides of the ball despite the loss of
Jamario Thomas. The offensive line deserves credit for being
devastating over the second half of the season.
… Troy: It's fitting that the
team would win its final game of the year thanks to big
defensive plays getting two interception returns for
touchdowns against MTSU, but there's an outside chance that
this wasn't the team's final game. With Clemson and South
Carolina backing out of bids, there are plenty of open spaces
and Troy deserves to play somewhere. Getting up early is the
key for this team meaning Jason Samples' two first quarter
touchdown catches turned out to be huge. … UL
Lafayette: UL
Lafayette's 4-7 season could've easily been a winning one
losing to four games by four points or fewer. To lose on a
last-second field goal to UL Monroe after playing so well
defensively has to sting, but the offense made it s own
mistakes with three turnovers.
… UL Monroe: ULM
couldn't have ended the season on a better note winning five
of its final seven games and beating UL Lafayette with a last
second field goal. Considering the one win the program came up
with last year, this second half of the year will carry the
team into the off-season providing motivation for a program
looking to become a Sun Belt player next year. ... Utah State: Utah State's lousy
season and horrible six-game losing streak both came to an end
in a great fourth quarter against New Mexico State. The
running of Chris Forbes was a steadying force in a wild game
of wild momentum swings. Now the team has to use the
off-season to figure out how to play better on the road and
get its offense to be more explosive. |
