Andrew Fountaine was born in 1918, the son of Vice Admiral Charles Fountaine who had been naval ADC to King George V. The family had been established in Norfolk since the 16th century and had become respected landowners.

In 1946 Andrew took over control of the family estate and very soon after, at the Conservative Party conference, he made clear his anxieties over the nation-wrecking programme of the elected government. He introduced a resolution to "finally root out the ever-increasing subversive foreign influence within our own country and the Dominions overseas". The rank and file members met these sentiments with rapturous applause. However, daggers were immediately drawn against him at Conservative Central Office.

In 1948 he once again received an enthusiastic response when he described the Labour administration as "a group of conscientious objectors, national traitors, semi-alien mongrels and hermaphrodite Communists."

By 1948 it had become clear to Andrew and many other patriots that there was a conflict of interest between the ordinary people and those who had taken political control. In 1950 Andrew Fountaine stood as a Conservative Party candidate at Chorley in Lancashire on a patriotic pro-British platform. He had his candidature disowned by Conservative Party Central Office, which confirmed his belief that both the government and opposition had embarked on a course of national and cultural destruction.

In 1952 Andrew Fountaine held a public meeting which was attended by over 200 people. It was here that he first expounded the policies of what he called the National Front Movement. So, technically, it could be said that this is the fiftieth anniversary of our party. Having lost faith with the main parties, Andrew sought an alternative, and in 1957 he became President of the National Labour Party. This organisation reflected Andrew's beliefs and put patriotism and British regeneration at the top of its agenda. The three main parties at this time were beavering away, breaking up the Empire, sabotaging British Industry, drawing up plans for comprehensive education, abolishing national service and organising the coloured invasion of Britain.

The National Labour Party amalgamated with the British National Party, (not to be confused with the current BNP). During 1967 these two groups joined up with the League of Empire Loyalists to form the National Front, of which, for many years, Andrew Fountaine was the Deputy Chairman. Andrew became the first National Front candidate when he stood in a Parliamentary by-election in Acton. He received 1,400 votes, a good result for an unknown party.

THE PROPHECY an extract from Andrew Fountain's 1952 election meeting.·

"We have not in thirty years had a government of men who have been prepared to put the nation before any party political considerations. Men who will sell their nationhood, betray¸ their own countrymen to defeat their hated political enemies. Of the two (Tories and Socialists) I believe the Conservatives are the lesser evil, but I want something better for my country than the choice of two evils. While we have become tired and decadent the coloured world is neither tired nor passive ... unless we can develop morale we may as well throw our atom bombs to the bottom of the sea".

He went on to describe how" Mexico - an empire and a great and growing civilisation – had been destroyed in 1518 by "black magic" the auto suggestion of defeat, Andrew declared "the same kind of magic influences this country today. Had they united the armies of Montezuma could have annihilated the small army of Cortez, but they trembled before the invader because they believed he was a god, who according to their mythology would conquer them. A nation was thus destroyed by a myth. That myth of self destruction, national suicide exists in this country today. Unless within a very short time this nation can be united in a single entity, the hope for our life as a nation and indeed for the whole of Western Europe no longer exists".

In later years following the division and near collapse of the National Front, it was Andrew W. Fountaine who led the way in forming the National Front Constitutional Movement, which eventually emerged as a revitalised National Front.

There is no doubt, that when all these facts are assimilated by the wider nationalist community in this country, that the position of the late Commander Andrew Fountaine within the historical context will be assured.
