Since its introduction in early 1997, the Nortel Networks Passport 1000 Routing Switch has been a very successful platform for Nortel Networks and our customers. Nortel Networks was the first to market with a purpose built Layer 3 Routing Switch. In May 2000, Nortel Networks delivered a second generation, Layer 2-Layer 7 platform with the high performance Passport 8600 Routing Switch. Nortel Networks intends to continue significant investments in the Passport 8600 platform and scale down its investment in the Passport 1000 platform.
