2845 ATAEM-V Badger Comment!
12/7/04 10:55 PST | Starsiege | Gryphon
The Starsiege: 2845 team has released some info on a nice little toy for their upcoming Tribes: Vengeance mod.
The Badger series of trucks are all-terrain, all-environment multipurpose utility vehicles designed to carry passengers and infantry supplies despite the worst Mercurial heat, Venusian acid, Martian dust, and outer system cold. Badgers can be outfitted for a variety of missions, but increasingly popular is the fast attack vehicle configuration with 40mm autocannon. In this configuration, designated FAV-9, the Badger is ideally suited to armed reconnaissance missions, since the autocannon’s coaxial camera can double as a short periscope. Even more important in the eyes of the infantry, though, the autocannon gives Badger drivers the firepower necessary to deliver critical supplies to men and women in the very midst of combat.

Contactmusic.com Review Comment!
11/19/04 12:29 PST | TRIBES: Vengeance | Gryphon
Contactmusic.com reviews Tribes: Vengeance.
If you cast your mind back five years you may remember the low-key entrance of the game Tribes into the world of the First Person Shooter (FPS). Released in the wake of Doom 3 , Tribes Vengeance may well be facing stiff competition in the genre when it comes to the new wave of DirectX 9 powered shooters, but it certainly manages to hold its own. It is the 12 th game set in a sci-fi universe previously known as Metaltech , Earthsiege , and Starsiege . The single player side of the game is played out through the eyes of multiple characters (you experience missions as an Imperial Royal, a Phoenix tribesman and a cyborg assassin amongst others) in a story of two princesses – a mother making choices that effect the entire universe, and her daughter, twenty years later, dealing with the repercussions of those decisions.

Irritant releases a map Comment!
11/15/04 18:20 PST | Community | Notman
IrritAnt from Irrational Games has released a map that he made personally. It is for the multiplayer version of Tribes Vengeance and it's named Gigant. This beta map includes a version for CTF and Fuel.
MP-Gigant BETA by Andrew "IrritAnt" Orman Imperial troops and Blood Eagle warriors face off against one another across a blasted and desolate wasteland. Once home to many and varied forms of life, this paradise has been reduced to a barren no-man's land through constant warfare.
You can read more about it and get the download here. Also note: THIS MAP IS NOT ENDORSED OR SUPPORTED BY IRRATIONAL GAMES OR VIVENDI UNIVERSAL GAMES IN ANY WAY!

Vengeance Review Comment!
11/15/04 8:40 PST | TRIBES: Vengeance | Gryphon
Christ Centered Games has released their review of Tribes: Vengeance.
One word describes this game’s sound: beautiful. The dialogue occasionally sounded just a little awkward, as though some of the voice actors needed a little more practice, but that’s the exception. And the in game sound is magnificent. From the buzz of a spinfusor disc, to the whistle and massive explosion of a mortar shell, to the squeal of tires on a rover or the rumbling engine of a jump tank, to the mechanical whir of a “heavy”, the sound is just as I would imagine it. The soundtrack is mainly rather forgettable techno type music, but it does make a good fighting background.

Starsiege: 2845 Dev Diary Comment!
11/12/04 8:52 PST | Starsiege | Gryphon
The second developer diary for Starsiege: 2845 has been posted at the Junkyard.
So it’s November already. With our projected/promised ATR date just 2.5 months away the whole team is working as hard as possible to surmount the assorted milestones needed before that can happen. The major hurdles are, as always, with the coding team. The art department is going full bore into level design and asset production. Things like buildings, spawn pads, generators, and the other assorted errata that are needed to populate a map, and turn it from just terrain into a real environment. Personally I’m working on multiple fronts: finishing up some textures for some cybrid units, animating and setting up hercs for in game use, modeling version 2 of several cybrid units, coordinating my work with the coding team, and helping out the level object artists where needed.
You can find the rest of the diary at www.junkyard.net. You can find the first diary here.

Vengeance Reviews Comment!
11/11/04 11:00 PST | TRIBES: Vengeance | Gryphon
Two reviews from Age of Play and Gamehelper.

Snippet from the Age of Play review:
Vengeance packs more wallop in less space and with fewer maps (currently) than before, and has new weapons, tools, vehicles and aircraft; more bang for your buck, Burner, Buckler, Blaster, etc.
Read the rest at www.ageofplay.com Snippet from the Gamehelper review:
Since the beginning of development Sierra was selling the product as the first Tribes game in the series to sport a full-fledged single-player storyline. Not only was the story well told the first time around, playing further into it I can say that it only gets better. I don’t want to give anything away, but after playing through a good few hours of some solid character development, you’re then switched to a new character who has been hired to assassinate one of the main protagonists. Add some interesting plot twists like that and new cut-scenes that have been edited (from what we saw in the preview code) to flow better as the story progresses, you just might find yourself glued to the screen as I was in order to discover the most recent event.

Gamers With Jobs Review Comment!
11/4/04 9:32 PST | TRIBES: Vengeance | Gryphon
Gamers With Jobs has put up their review of Tribes: Vengeance.
If I had to describe the singleplayer gameplay of Tribes: Vengeance in one word I'd say “varied”. The missions jump back and forth from base defense, to sniping and infiltration, capturing territories and even some “running the gauntlet” style missions. One of the more memorable missions had you defending a base yet another good mission had you fighting in zero gravity. Several had you face off against bots in an arena playing the various multiplayer gametypes. If there's anything you can do in Tribes multiplayer, there's a singleplayer mission designed around it.

Several times this left me with the “elaborate tutorial” feeling, there were missions obviously designed to teach you how to use a certain weapon like the grappling hook, and help text constantly popped up on the screen to show you how to use your weapons. Still I can't hold that against them, as these missions were so much more than simple tutorials. They would teach you how to do something, then give you plenty of practice just playing the level and having a blast. Frankly, they were just too damn fun to simply call them tutorials. You may have spent half the level learning how to use the grappling hook, but you were learning while swinging through sewers sniping Imperial guards. I just realized I had fun in the sewer level, which speaks for itself.
