Manchester Building Control Services
Safety standards associated with buildings have evolved progressively over a long period of time. Their recent development has often been in response to modern tragedies like the Summerland fire and the Hillsborough Football Stadium disaster. Recent legislative development has become much more rapid, extending into areas of policy, and there is now a complex web of legislation designed to protect the safety of the public in buildings and at events. Our work includes processing Building Regulations applications and inspecting work under construction; controlling building demolition and dealing with dangerous buildings; enforcing fire safety standards in certain residential and registered buildings; advising licensing authorities and departments on means of escape and other safety requirements in licensed premises and for events; the preparation and enforcement of general and special safety certificates for the Citys Sports Stadia and managing improved access to buildings for people with disabilities. We also enforce and advise on the Greater Manchester Act which includes fire safety requirements in large storage buildings. Our Work
Our job is to help our customers achieve the standards needed to obtain the approvals they are seeking, whether that involves the completion of a building or the planning of an event. Our service makes the customers interest its central focus, and we listen closely to what they tell us. Over the last five years we have introduced customer surveys, initially for Building Regulations work and now extending on an annual basis to all other activities. We use the results to help find ways of delivering what our customers want. Through enormous effort and the dedication of our staff we have transformed our service to a modern dynamic consultancy. Our emphasis is to put the customer at the centre of our service. For more information about Local Authority Building Control visit the LABC Services Web Site (external site) |
