This was a test to see how the (at the time of this render still unfinished) digital Rygel would hold up against the puppet under on-set lighting. The head was a nice cleaned up scan of the puppet by Headus. I built the dressing gown, teeth and
eyes (using a method similar to this one) I used Shag:Hair
for the whiskers and hair. For the shader on his head I stitched together about half a dozen hi-res digital photos of the puppet and then heavily retouched them in Photoshop to remove highlights and shadows from the map, and to blend and grade the different sections together. The velvet shader was all procedural as was the Throne Sled's, which used vertex colours to mask out dirt and worn areas. The Throne Sled was an incomplete very dense scan inherited from
The velvet shader was all procedural as was the Throne Sled's, which used vertex colours to mask out dirt and worn areas. The Throne Sled was an incomplete very dense scan inherited fromGMD at the end of season one. I had to rebuild large sections of the base to match the look of scan using a Wacom pen and a freeware sculpting plugin called Deform Paint. Once that was done I created and setup all the morph targets for his face using Morpher, isolating each facial feature for maximum control using soft-selections. Comped using Digital Fusion.
The yellow glow between the two Rygels is just the eyes of a DRD I glowed up because... well... I thought it looked cool. That and it helps the CG sit in the plate a bit better....
