Durham Challenge Cup Round 1

Bishop Auckland 2 : Hebburn Town 3

27 October, 2004

Team: Wolfe, Gwyn, Foster (Morfitt 45mins), Neil, West, Collins (Michael Taylor 82mins), Moore, Rowe, Ludlow, Morgan, Irvine

Bishops suffered the humiliation of defeat to lowly Hebburn Town after squandering chances up front, with another defensive nightmare.

Brian Rowe lashed a shot against the bar from long range on 20 minutes and with the half drawing to a close another shot managed to hit both posts before rebounding to safety.

Inevitably it was Brian Rowe who opened the scoring in first half injury time when he ran and shot home low to the 'keeper's right.

Rowe again hit the bar in the opening minutes of the second half, but Hebburn drew level on 65 minutes when Neil allowed Donaghy to head home unchallenged from a free-kick.

Calamitous defending on 74 minutes saw Hebburn take the lead when a shot against the underside of the bar triggered chaos in the Bishops area.

Ludlow brought Bishops back level on 82 minutes with a low shot but Neil handed the initiative back to Hebburn on 87 minutes when his clumsy challenge led to a penalty which ended Bishops involvement in the County Cup.

This was Bishops first exit at the 1st Round stage since they re-entered the competition in 1984.
