Tools For Travelers - Magazines
We believe that a print magazine is only as good as its Web site. Publishers who really care about their readers make an effort to post original content free of charge; those who don't are more likely to cheap out on their Net offering. So if you see a site that really speaks to you, we encourage you to subscribe to the magazine. It's a karma thing.

Backpacking, camping, and hiking… that's the focus here. Nice features include the Getaway Guide and gear reviews, but the Trail Finder is just a front-end for the pay-as-you-go service by Trails.com. Consider yourself warned.
Concierge.com is the home page for Condé Nast Traveler, one of the world's most popular travel publications. There's lots of great stuff here, but it's kind of high-brow--so you won't find a lot about traveling on a budget, if that's what you're looking for.
Backroads travel is what Country Discoveries is all about. But aside from a few brief articles and a way to subscribe to the magazine, there's really not much to see here.
If you'd rather sail your own boat than leave the driving to the likes of Carnival or Royal Caribbean, Cruising World is your magazine. There are some nice features here for both sailors and wannabes, plus you can jump over to Sailing World magazine if you crave more sailing-related stuff.

Aloha! If your idea of a vacation is sipping a margarita on the beach and getting lei'd, click right here. The Paradise Planner is not as good as we had hoped, but there are still some good things here. Our favorite is probably the Island of the Day (what, Maui again?).

What can we say? If you don't know how cool National Geographic is, then you've probably been hidden away in some seldom-visited corner of the globe. Hey, wait a minute… didn't we see you in the last issue?
"Dream it. Plan it. Do it." So is the motto of this magazine, created just for gonzo adventure types who don't mind putting themselves in harm's way for the sake of a few thrills. Cool photos, excellent articles… everything we would expect from an NG publication.
If National Geographic is about expeditions to far-off lands and National Geographic Adventure is about the more physical side of vacationing, then National Geographic Traveler is somewhere in-between. As always, there are lots and lots of articles to be found here and the content is of the highest quality. Dig in.

One of the more robust sites on the Internet today, Outside Online is an awesome resource for just about anything you can do out-of-doors. Need reviews on the latest models of mountain bikes? Can do. Want to tighten up your abs? They'll tell you how. Want some vacation ideas that you've probably never thought of? They have that, too. You'll bookmark this one.

Cruise travel is on the rise, so it's not too surprising that Porthole magazine was created for the scads of ocean-going travelers out there. Sadly, their site is low on content, serving more to promote the magazine than offer any real information. Avast, ye maties--we've been scuttled.

If you're going on a roadtrip, RV-ing is the way to do it right. There's something for every RV enthusiast here, from the beginner to the "full-timer". Positive thumbs up!
