Download.com Review of WS_FTP Home
This program aims to take the grunt work out of FTP by providing rock-solid features and performance, albeit wrapped in a rather dull shell. Outside of the steep price tag, the most obvious change from WS_FTP LE to WS_FTP Home is the interface, which finally gets a much-needed makeover. Transfers are lightning-fast, connections are quick, navigation is a breeze, and, most importantly, reliablity is never an issue. Establishing connections to remote sites is simple and painless, and the program also supports connections via SSL. The two-pane interface shows remote and local file systems, making transferring files via drag and drop a snap. Profiles aid your return to previously visited locations, but be prepared to navigate a series of screens to set up bookmarked sites. WS_FTP Home boasts a complete set of features, packed with options for firewalls, interface customizations, file handling, transfer modes, and logs. A minor drawback is the lack of keyboard shortcuts, which forces users to navigate using the smallish buttons. Overall, WS_FTP Home is a fine choice for basic FTP needs, but it would be more compelling if it were free.
