20th Annual Duckboat Show and Waterfowl Festival
Decoy
entries at the 1999 show
At
the show we will have a variety of events. There
will be the SSWA Hunting Buddy Qualifications (to
test a dogs basic obedience and retrieval
instincts). The Duck & Goose Calling Clinics,
with the possibility of a Duck & Goose
Calling Contest (currently in the works), as well
as the Ducks Unlimited sponsored Greenwing Event.
A DU expert carver will teach Greenwings
(children under 18) how to paint a decoy head and
they will be able to bring them home.
There
will also be the Waterfowlers Clays
practice and competition, if we get permission
due to the close proximity to resident houses.
Bring your own gun down or use ours and show off
your shotgun shooting prowess. We will try to
make it as challenging as possible. One of the
major events of the show is the Decoy Carving.
Local carvers get to show off their skills
creating realistic decoys in the three major
categories: Al McCormick Gunning Stool, Shang
Wheeler Decorative Decoys, and the Harry Ike
Gunning Stool Spread. Awards are given out in the
different categories (as well as bragging
rights).
Another
major draw to the show is the Duckboats. There are five principal
categories of crafts: one-man and two-man grass
boats, floating blinds, scoter (layout boats),
and gunning coffins. They are judged on different
criteria and the winners of each class are judged
for the single 'Best in Show' award. People love
to see the crafts so bring yours down to the
show. Even if you dont want to enter it,
please bring it down anyway. The more different
boats present the better. Dont forget the
Swap Shop. Bring down your outdoor or
waterfowling gear you want to sell or donate and
let us help you get rid of it. You can also
purchase many great items from the vendors
present. They always have great things for sale.
Check out the exhibitors for useful information
on our great outdoors.
So
remember to mark off Sunday, November 5, 9:00 AM
to 4:00 PM, for a great day at Gilgo Beach Marina, Ocean Parway, Babylon, NY.
