The Sullivan File
General Sullivan

General Gordon Sullivan is a native of Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from Norwich University in 1959 with a degree in History and later received his M.A. in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire. He and his wife Gay have three children.

General Sullivan has served the U.S. Army in a variety of staff and command positions, including four years in joint and allied assignments. He has commanded at the platoon through division level. General Sullivan's service career culminated with his appointment as Chief of Staff of the United States Army, 1991-95.

General Sullivan was elected to the Norwich University Board of Trustees in 1995. In 1997 he was awarded the first-ever Norwich Leadership Medal, which recognizes individuals who exemplify leadership and personify the high ideals and beliefs of the University, whether embodying the concept of "citizen-soldier" or the "citizen-leader."
