Why it was created:
TotalDeletion© was created for students of English as a foreign language. But it will work for any language. It's an extremely easy way to make a custom computer lesson for your students. Any language, Any topic.

What it is:
TotalDeletion© is a classic CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) program. Students can see a line where letters used to be. Example: "That is my dog." would be "____ __ __ ___". You can also give a hint. Example: "Translate into Latin: The soldiers are brave." Hints will appear in the field above the student's window. Students type the words they think are in the answer. If they are right, the word appears. Very simple. Your hint provides the goal, the lines help the student to think about how to achieve the goal, and the program provides instant feedback.

 

How to make a new deletion exercise:
It's easy. (That's the whole idea!) Go to the "Teacher" menu and choose either "New Deletion" or "Open Text File". New Deletion will clear the fields and allow you to type. Open Text File will do exactly that. Again it's easy to make a file for this program. Use any word processor and do the following:
• Type a number (optional)
• Type a hint for the hint box (use '#' for any returns you want here!)
• Press 'Tab'
• Type the answer. (Tip use a spreadsheet program to make sure all the hints and answers line up nice and neat!)

That's all there is to it! I've included a sample with this program. You can look at it in your word processor.

There's also balloon help (Macs only!) in case you forget everything!

What you need:
This program should work on any Mac or Windows computer. I've tested it on Windows NT, Windows 95, Macintosh (PowerPC and 68040)
Of course you need to download the proper file for your platform.
