Condi In France

I was watching Condi Rice giving a talk in France today.  It was pretty impressive.  She is a great speaker, and, I think, wooed fquite a few Europeans today.  I have to say, I just jumped on the "Condi in '08" bandwagon.

Whew....

Just got my computer back, and it seems to be working fine.  It's amazing how needy I was for a computer while it was away.  I was able to update stuff from work, so that was lucky, but having my computer back at home is an obvious relief.

How About Assisted Suicide?

From Metro Networks...

Dr. Jack Kevorkian's brief furlough from prison is over.  The assisted-suicide advocate underwent hernia surgery last Thursday and was expected to recuperate in the hospital for a couple of weeks.  Instead he is back in his prison bed.  Kevorkian is serving his time at the Thumb Correctional Facility near Lapeer, Michigan.  He was convicted in 1998 of second-degree murder for giving a fatal injection to a Waterford man suffering from Lou Gehrig's disease.

Practice what you preach, I always say.

Darn That Good News

From Metro Networks...

Relations between the U.S. and Indonesia are improving as Washington helps out with tsunami relief.  That's according to a U.S Navy commander who says many Indonesians were suspicious of the U.S. soldiers who arrived in Aceh (AH-chay) province a week after the deadly tsunamis of December 26th.  Ties between the two countries were strained after Indonesian soldiers and the militia they backed in East Timor were accused in 1998 of human right violations there.  But now, U.S. Navy Rear Admiral William Douglas Crowder says you can't help but feel the kinship that has been built in the time the U.S. troops have been there.  The U.S. military deployment, which involved about 16-thousand-500 personnel, formed the biggest single force helping tsunami survivors.

It's amazing to see how badly we treat those muslims isn't it?  I don't think this will see as much press as a story about how much the Indonesians hate us would...but I'm just speculating.

A Thought

Louisiana soldiers fighting overseas are trying to get a taste of home.  At Camp Liberty in western Baghdad they had a Mardi Gras Parade yesterday.  Members of the Louisiana National Guard's 256th Brigade turned their military trucks into makeshift Carnival floats.  They paraded around the camp.  They had beads sent from home and threw them to fellow soldiers.

I wonder how long it will be before these folks are castigated for celebrating the Christian religion?  Mardi Gras, after all, is a religious observance....Just Sayin'.

Locks and Driving Lessons

A Metro Networks story...

A four-year-old Michigan boy took himself for a late night drive over the weekend.  The boy got out of bed at 1:30 a.m., took the car keys and got into his mother's car.  He drove a quarter mile down the street to the video store.  When he found out the store was closed, he turned around and went home.  Police officers saw the car rolling down the street and thought there was no driver.  Fortunately, nobody was hurt, although the child did bump the Geo Prism in to a couple of parked cars.

How about some locks on the doors...up high where the kid can't get to them....and driving lessons...get that kid on to go carts so he can grow up to hit the NASCAR circuit and win the parents some money.

Keep 'Em Baggy

From Metro Networks

Algie T. Howell Jr. said he was tired of hearing his customers complain about pants young people wear that hang to their knees and expose their underwear.  So he decided to do something about it.  The Norfolk, Virginia state delegate introduced a "Droopy Drawers Bill" that is garnering support.  The "Virginian Pilot" reports that House bill 1981 would impose a $50 fine on those who expose their undergarments.  Howell has scored one victory with the bill already.  The Courts of Justice Committee has approved his bill and is sending it to the House floor.  But a representative from the ACLU says "the bill will not withstand constitutional scrutiny."

I've never agreed with laws trying to make people hike their pants up.  I feel stronger about this after watching police chases.  People are much easier to catch when they have to have one hand on their pants trying to keep from tripping on them.
