8/26/03 - The "Program" page has been updated to add a couple pictures from past events. We'll get the tentative plans for the coming year up as soon as the VP-Program provides them. (Note to VP-Program: You'd better watch out! Arnold has expressed interest in your position since he's not doing well in the governor's race.) So, if you want to know what's going on, drop us an e-mail (see below) or call the advisor - Rege George at (724) 776-9451. Venture Crew 42 is a new High Adventure Venture Crew sponsored by Dutilh United Methodist Church in Cranberry Township, PA. Crew meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of the month through the school year from 7:30 to 9:00pm at Dutilh UM Church. The fourth Tuesday of the month is the Crew Officers meeting (every other month this is a joint Crew Committee/Crew Officers meeting). We are in the Glacier Ridge District of the Moraine Trails Council of the Boy Scouts of America.
What is Venturing?Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the eighth grade) through 20 years of age. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. The Venturing program is designed to be youth run, with the assistance of adult Advisors. The result is a program of exciting and fun activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, develop leadership skills, and become good citizens. More details about Venturing are available at the BSA National web site.
Our MissionThe "Mission Statement" is determined by the Crew members. Once it has been developed it will be posted here.
Crew ProfileWhile the Venturing program has many facets to it, there are some significant points to note that help define our Crew and its goals: Youth Run - we have a focus on being a youth run Crew. Offering leadership training and opportunities provides great growth experiences. There may be some failed adventures, but we'll learn from them. High Adventure - the activities of the Crew are determined by the youth members with guidance from the Advisors. But rather than being career related these activities are outdoor and high adventure (camping, backpacking, canoeing, climbing, caving, etc). Co-ed - with appropriate adult female involvement, the Crew offers the same challenging and fun outdoor activities to young ladies that it offers to young men.
