Week of July 30, 2000: Festa Comunista Poster, Castellina in Chianti Although most of Italy has abandoned the Communist Party, you still see traces of the movement here and there. Mostly it's in the poorer south, but here I spotted this poster for a "festa Comunista" (Communist Festival) in the relatively prosperous Chianti country of Castellina. If you look closely at the poster, you'll see what really caught my eye: the image of a woman breast feeding her baby with an AK-47 rifle on her right shoulder. Shot with a Nikon N90 camera and 35-70 mm f2.8 AFD Nikkor lens on Fuji Velvia film. Scanned to Kodak PhotoCD, opened in Adobe Photoshop 5, Levels and Unsharp Mask filters applied.
