Friday Feature November 5: Ship Customizations

Today, our Friday Feature focuses on many of the ship customizations that are possible. Players can customize their ships with different colors and patterns. Here are the pattern styles for 8 different ships. (Imperial ships, as part of the Imperial Navy do not offer customizations).

How to Customize your Spaceship

Once you move past the starter ship and get your own space ship, you can customize it and give it some of your personality. There are two different aspects to customizing your space ship. There are "texture" customizations and "color" customizations. Respectively, there are "texture customization" kits and "color customization kits". Textures are the designs and color customizations change the color of the textures.

You can either visit a bazaar/vendor to find these customization kits or visit your friendly neighborhood shipwright to see if he or she will craft one for you. You can check to see if there are any on the Bazaar under "Ship Components". Once you get your ship and your customization kits, here is how they work:

Texture Customization

Texture customization kits are created based on the level of the crafter. A low level texture kit may only offer you the basic level of pattern. The advanced kits will offer you more patterns. Once you have your ship customization kit:
  • Open your inventory (CTRL-I)
  • Pull up the radial menu item on the Texture Customization kit and select "Change Texture"
  • Select your ship (If you have more than one)
  • Click "Change Texture"
  • Your ship will have a new texture based on what is available for your ship and the texture customization kit.

Color Customization

  • Go to a starship terminal and "Use" it with the radial menu
  • Select the ship you want to customize
  • Click "Manage Components"
  • Open your Inventory (CTRL-I)
  • Click the Color Customization Kit
  • Use the radial menu on the Color Customization Kit to "Set Color"
  • A window will come up asking you if you want to set your primary or secondary colors.
  • Once you select which color set you want to change, the color palette will come up and you will be able to select your color and see what it is going to look like in the "Manage Components" window.

You can do this without going to a starship terminal and using the "Manage Components" window, but you wont be able to preview the color change.

Welcome to the In Testing Page

This is the third stage in the SWG Development Cycle.

    1. In Concept
    2. In Development
    3. In Test
    4. In Live

The Test Center is a very special server, unlike any of the other servers in Star Wars Galaxies™: An Empire Divided™. As we work on updating the game, we periodically push new versions up to Test Center. After the Test Center community has the chance to try out the new changes, we incorporate their feedback before putting the new features and fixes on all the other servers.

We encourage our community to check out Test Center from time to time, especially when you see Update Notes that effect your profession or playstyle. Please go to the In Testing Forum to give us your feedback, to see the latest focus threads, hot fixes and Test Center status.

Things you will find here on the In Test page:
  • Test Center Announcements: The latest news and information
  • Test Center Server Status: We will update our Test Server status here along with any notes regarding the server.
  • Regular Developer posters Test Center: A list of names of familiar posters.
  • Current Test Center Update Notes: Update notes for changes made on the TC servers that are not on live servers.

Regular Developer posters For Test Center

On the In Testing Forum, you have a few names that you should expect to see on a regular basis:

James "Vass" Whisenant - SWG Assistant QA Buildmaster
Grant "Rogue_5" McDaniel - SWG QA Buildmaster
Daniel "NooDood" Wilhite - SWG Quality Assurance Manager
Kurt "Thunderheart" Stangl - SWG Community Relations Manager
Diane "Tiggs" Migliaccio - SWG Assistant Community Manager
Gary "JustG" Gattis - SWG Senior Producer

These folks will be interacting with the Test Center community in order to gather feedback on the new versions so that problems can be addressed before the new code is put on all the other servers. You are also encouraged to join the community on the Test Center Forum

Because Test Center runs a newer version of the code than all the other servers do, you cannot use your normal SWG client to log in. If you are interested in participating on the Test Center server, here's How to Join Test Center!

Current Test Center Update Notes:

Avatar
  • Fix for avatar sitting in chair and after 5 minutes sliding forward and being left floating in the air.

    Bazaar / Vendor
  • Fixed problem with item getting deleted after retrieving item from vendor

    Client Stability
  • Chat saving protocols have been optimized on the client. (For those that are curious, we throttled excessive disk io in the UI saving code and limited the amount of back scroll text that is saved to the uis. This should help out with client lag and make larger uis files considerably smaller.)
  • Fixed a Crash To Desktop when using the /ttell command without having an active target.
  • Fixed a Crash-to-Desktop when using the "Disconnect" button in-game.

    Crafting
  • Berserker Rifle Stabilization components now drop with serial numbers.
  • Existing Berserker Rifle Stabilization components should now have serial numbers as well.
  • Hide and Organic symbols have been changed.

    Events
  • Wookiee Life Day has been disabled for US and European servers

    GCW
  • Faction backpacks are no longer auto-unequipped

    Inventory
  • Added checkboxes to force sorting the player's datapad and inventory contents. When run the first time, these values should default to "on". The toggles are located under the options/interface UI. Turning them off will give the behavior that occurred before the auto-sorting feature was introduced.
  • Fixed problem with items looted from a corpse disappearing after crossing server boundary
  • Fixed a problem with items disappearing after picking items up from a house and crossing server boundary
  • Faction backpacks should no longer disappear when traveling or logging out. Faction backpacks will no longer be auto-unequipped. Note: other faction items may auto-unequip and can sometimes overload your inventory. If this happens, you will not be able to move. You will need to move items out of your inventory into an equipped backpack, bank, house, get help from a friend, etc., or delete items as needed until the inventory count is within limits.

    Loot
  • "Recyclers" have been added to the game. There are 5 types of recyclers: Flora, Creature, Metal, Chemical and Ore. Click here for more information.

    Space Missions
  • Star Destroyer now drops 10-20k credits in deep space
  • Rebel space station now drops 10-20k credits in deep space
  • The prison ship in the rebel tier 4 recovery duty "Rescue prisoners from the Empire" will no longer exit the Dathomir region early.

    Space UI
  • Added light gray directional indicators that display a gunner's target to the pilot of a ship with turrets. In a multi-passenger ship when a player mans a turret, when the gunner cycles through targets, the pilot should see a light gray arrow that indicates the direction of the gunner's target. Please note that this should only appear when the target is off screen (similar to the standard target arrow) and that if the gunner and the pilot have the same thing targeted, then the target will only be indicated by the player's blue arrow.

    Tutorial / New User Experience
  • The tutorial voice over will play once again.
