# Project

If you would like to participate in this pizza project, you will find out what is the best buy for your money, a small, medium or large pizza.

First, take the radius of your pizza and find the area. (Remember A = x r x r.) Next, divide the cost of your pizza by the answer of the area, that is the square inches. This will give you the price per square inch of your pizza.

For example, if your radius is 10 inches, the Area = 3.14 x 10 x 10 or 314 sq. in. Now divide the cost, say, \$20 by 314. The answer is \$0.063 or \$0.06 per sqare inch. You would do this for a small, medium and large pizza. Compare the cost per square inch for each of these and you will be able to determine the best value for your money.

You can submit your answer to us and share your work with other students. The results of this collaborative project will be available on Day, March 14th (3/14). So do join us and let us know where in the world is the best buy for pizza.

### Day Results March 14 (3/14) 1996

Ed Jackson's fifth grade class at Snake River Middle School in Blackfoot, Idaho is the winner. The best buy was a large cheese pizza at .055 cents per square inch.

### 1997

This year's winner is Matt Conroy in John Hoppe's 9 year old and 10 year old maths class at Glen Waverly Secondary College (Glen Waverly, Victoria, Australia). The best buy is a large Hawaiian Pizza at .033 cents per square inch. The ingredients include: cheese, ham, pineapple, and tomato paste.
