CP's Spring Lace Scrunchie, with Becky's Sculpted Edging

CP's Spring Lace Scrunchie Model Made by Vicky Linnell, using DMC Pearl Cotton #5 and 5mm round beads

Pattern Notes: To make this scrunchie without the edging, fasten off after Row 4. Weave in all loose thread ends.

Materials:
Mercerized Cotton Thread, size 10, about 16 yards
Size 6 steel crochet hook
Elastic-covered ponytail holder
61 small (size 4mm) beads, optional for edging

Directions:
Foundation Row: Join thread with sl st around band, ch 1. Work sc all around until band is completely covered; join with sl st to first sc.
Row 1: Ch 11 (counts as first dc plus ch 8), sk next sc, dc in next sc, (ch 8, sk next sc, dc in next sc) 5 times, leaving remaining sts unworked: 6 loops.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc, now and throughout), turn; (9 dc in loop, dc in next dc) across, working the last dc in the 3rd ch of the beginning ch 11. 61 dc.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn; sc in first dc. (Ch 8, sk next 4 dc, sc in next dc) across: 12 loops.
Row 4: Ch 3, turn; (9 dc in loop, dc in next sc) across. End Here for Scrunchie without an edging.

BECKY'S EDGING, with or without beads.

Becky's Notes: The edging row is "wrong side facing" since you have to turn and go back. I've discovered that I like the look because it gives the double crochets below a bit of a sculpted look. On row 4, I ended up with 122 double crochets (probably miscounted when I was crocheting) but in any case an even number of dc's would probably work with the edging row I added.

Directions for edging without beads:
Ch 1, turn, sc in first dc, sc in next dc, * ch 4, sc in next two dc's, repeat from * to end of row. I ended up with 61 ch 4 loops. Fasten off. Weave in all loose ends.

Directions for edging with Beads:

Fasten off after Row 4. Weave in all loose threads.

Thread 61 4mm beads onto remaining crochet cotton. Reattach thread in same stitch as last stitch in Row 4.

Ch 1, turn, sc in first dc, sc in next dc, * ch 2. Push up bead close to hook. Work 1 ch stitch to hold bead in place. Ch 1, sc in next two dc's. Repeat from * to end.Fasten off. I ended up with 61 ch 4 loops.
