Tournament House

The Tournament of Roses® Association's executive offices are located at Tournament House, an Italian Renaissance-style mansion that was once owned by chewing-gum pioneer William Wrigley Jr. Built between 1906 and 1914, the house is a reminder of Pasadena's early years, when it was one of many grand houses along South Orange Grove Boulevard.

After Mrs. Wrigley's death in 1958, the house and surrounding land were donated by the Wrigley family to the city of Pasadena with the stipulation that they would be used as the Tournament's permanent headquarters. The house's exotic wood paneling, marble staircase and fireplaces, and crystal light fixtures provide a majestic setting for the activities of the Tournament of Roses Association.

The interior of the house features richly paneled rooms, inlaid marble floors and ornate molded plaster ceilings. Among the highlights of the tour are a one-of-a-kind Waterford rose bowl commissioned for the centennial of the Tournament of Roses; and the formal portrait of the reigning Rose Queen by Charis Studio of Pasadena. Exhibited items of interest are crowns and tiaras worn by former Rose Queens and Princesses and Rose Bowl related trophies and memorabilia.

Outside the House, the Centennial Rose Garden features the All-America Rose Selections (AARS) award-winning Tournament of Roses rose developed especially for the Tournament of Roses Centennial. Surrounding Tournament House are the Wrigley Gardens, which feature a 4½-acre floral display of more than 1,500 varieties of roses, camellias and annuals.

The house closes to the public in September, but its rooms are still filled with activity, as volunteers and staff gear up for New Year's Day.
