LEINSTER IRISH CHRONICLES, (by A.J. Morris) "The County Wexford
Baronies are seven in number, namely, Bantry, Ballahgkeen, Shelburne, Shelmalier,
Scarawalsh, Forth, and Bargy.
is taken from the name of a tribe called the Ui Bairche, who dwelt
in south Wexford. Some of the tribe also settled near New Ross, giving
their name to Rosbercon. It is interesting to add that the family of Barrick
(who had dropped the "O" of O'Barrick), were fairly numerous in
New Ross as late as the second decade of the seventeenth century."
