This is the 8th edition of our website. This year we have added pages to help lighten your load, and your wallet, because the lighter you go up the trail the greater your chances are of success and for the backpackers who got the Main Mt. Whitney Trail Lottery Dear Hiker letter from the Inyo National Forest or for those of you who don't want to deal with the lottery, period, we have a way for you to reach to the summit in 3 Days...yes, we've done it and it isn't easy but it is more rewarding...you'll have to trust us on this one.

We try to make this website interesting to all but our goal is to get the newbie and those unfamiliar with Mt. Whitney area of the Eastern Sierra up to speed and moving toward their goal of reaching the summit but more importantly getting back to Whitney Portal on schedule and in a time which matches their skill set and conditioning. In addition to the information on the website we provide a community forum to swap ideas with fellow hikers and backpackers; and you can always as many questions as you want directly via our e-mail links throughout the website.

What makes this site better than a guide book is we are dynamic. When the Inyo National Forest makes a change to the rules we get it up on our website as soon as we find out about it, not in two years from when the rule was changed with the 3rd printing of the book. Unlike a guide book we deal in specifics and opinions not generalities, we list the stuff we use to give a starting point for your new money pit.

Since we are SoCals, there is some focus on training in our local mountains and the Eastern Sierra. We offer those unfamiliar with these mountains some ideas beyond Mt. Baldy, Mt. San Gorgonio and Mt. San Jacinto.

So, enjoy! Your comments and criticisms are welcome.
