DAN RATHER
Dan Rather Reporting

CBS Evening News Anchor Dan Rather is host of Westwood One’s Dan Rather Reporting, and is currently heard reporting on more than 300 radio stations across the country. Rather’s probing analysis and compelling commentary on both national and world affairs, politics and current events can be heard Monday through Friday between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. ET.

Since 1962, when Rather first joined CBS News, he has handled some of the most challenging assignments in journalism including the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the 1968 Democratic National Convention, wars in Vietnam, Persian Gulf, Yugoslavia and Afghanistan, and the recent terrorist attacks on America. His day-to-day commitment to substantive, fair, and accurate news reporting and his tough, active style have cemented for him a position of unrivaled respect among his peers and the public.

Often referred to as “the hardest working man in broadcast journalism,” Rather has lived up to the description immersing himself in the three broadcasts (The CBS Evening News, 48 Hours and 60 Minutes II) which he has helped distinguish with his now unmistakable style of tough, solid reporting.

He is also a prolific writer. Rather has written a total of seven books, including his most recent, The American Dream. His other books include Deadlines and Datelines, an abridgment of Mark Sullivan’s landmark popular history, Our Times: America at the Dawn of the Twentieth Century, The Camera Never Blinks Twice: The Further Adventures of a Television Journalist, I remember (1991), The Camera Never Blinks (1977) and The Palace Guard (1974).

Rather has been honored for his broadcast journalism work, winning numerous Emmy Awards and the Peabody Award, and citations from critical, scholarly, professional and charitable organizations.

Rather began his career in journalism in 1950 as an Associated Press reporter in Huntsville, Texas. Later, he was a reporter for United Press International (1950-52), KSAM Radio in Huntsville (1950-53), KTRH Radio in Houston, and The Houston Chronicle (1954-55). He became news director of KTRH in 1956 and a reporter for KTRK-TV Houston in 1959. Prior to joining CBS News, Rather was news director for KHOU-TV, the CBS affiliate in Houston.
