The first preview of Bastion Press' upcoming book, Wildwood, is now available for download. This little tidbit gives readers a glimpse into the Forbidden Forest.

http://www.oathbound.net/modules/mydownloads/

"Dark legends reach out across the ages to speak of a forested land ruled over by the might of an ancient and powerful creature. Known as Haiel, he visits the shores of other lands to whisk away the brave and show them fear, experience terror, and prove their worthiness and cunning. Adventuring companies, villages, and even entire civilizations have been swept into the Wildwood. The few pockets of humanity scattered throughout this untamed wilderness struggle to survive. Countless hordes of fearsome predators and foul beasts—including the green dragon Mastuu Dargus—freely roam through the twisted, overgrown forests and jungles of Wildwood, preying on the weak and unwary. Yet, concealed within the dense greenery of this heartless domain lies a wealth of undiscovered mysteries and limitless riches for those brave enough to navigate the endless gauntlet of horrifying monsters and lethal dangers. Behind it all is the harsh and cruel master of the lands, Haiel, manipulating all of those within his domain."

Wildwood may be used as a standalone campaign setting or to expand your game into the familiar domain for the popular Oathbound world.

Announcing Ghostorb.com’s very first module contest! Here’s your chance to win a free membership.

GhostOrb.com is hunting for the best multi-session modules for its member’s archives. Design an adventure and submit it to us for your chance to win. The module can be in any genre and any game system you like (it can even be in multiple systems, if they apply). The submission must be original (your own), previously unpublished work, and must conform to our GhostOrb Submissions Guidelines. Your adventure should be designed for 5 to 7 characters, and should be no more than 25,000 words in length.

All entries must be made by March 29th and should be emailed to submissions@ghostorb.com. In the subject line of your email write: “Entry for GO Module Contest #1". Include your name, address, and a working email address on the opening page of the manuscript. Entries should be made as standard text emails, or .PDFs.

The winner of this contest will be announced in the “News” updates on the Home Page of GhostOrb.com on April 5th, and the designer will earn a year’s free membership on GhostOrb.com. The winning module will also be artistically rendered and published in GhostOrb’s e-zine “the Tomes” for our members to enjoy. The two best runners-up submissions will earn their designers 6-month GhostOrb memberships.

Throw your hat in the ring, and let us see what you’ve got. We know there are some great (some might call them devious) Game Masters out there, and we are anxious to get a look at their designs.

Announcing the Launch of Wraeththu from Enchantment to Fulfilment

The hour is finally upon us: we had to let go of this project at some point! The final proof of Wraeththu from Enchantment to Fulfilment has been accepted and very shortly it will be stocked by Esdevium Games Ltd., UK (www.esdeviumgames.com). Orders for the game can now be taken through normal distribution channels in the UK and Europe.

Wraeththu from Enchantment to Fulfilment, is set in Storm Constantine's rich and vibrant fantasy world, and offers an entrancing gaming experience. The game will appeal to both new and experienced gamers, and provides a unique look into Storm's dark vision of earth's future. The book itself details many aspects of the Wraeththu Mythos and provides details of the various established tribes, some of which are only hinted at in Storm's novels. It provides an excellent resource for both gamers and fans of the Wraeththu Mythos.

Storm Constantine's world challenges the role-player to come up with other solutions and directions, which can be absent from generic science fiction and fantasy games. The game takes place in a world which rewards the quick witted; those who throw the first punch may fall by the wayside. The Wraeththu RPG tackles aspects of culture and magic in an understandable way and sets off from the beginning to inform players upon every aspect of Storm's androgynous race.

Conventions: ConDFW IV Con Report

Last weekend, I attended ConDFW in Richardson, TX. While not exactly a gaming con (there was some scattered board and miniatures gaming, plus a few LARPs), I have to recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy/sci-fi books, which I imagine covers a large portion of gamers. There is a very laid-back feel to the con, which may be due in large part to the fact that the bar is right in the middle of the lobby, encouraging socializing between panels.

Gaming-related guests making an appearance included Bill Fawcett (co-founder of Mayfair Games), Wil Upchurch (currently with Steve Jackson Games), and P.N. Elrod (Ravenloft fiction and early Dungeon adventure designer). Other guests included authors Steven Brust, Robert Asprin, John Steakley, Jody Lynn Nye, and artists David Cherry and Brad Foster.

Small press publisher Yard Dog Press also had a strong presence at the con. The number of Yard Dog authors present became readily apparent Friday night at the “Yard Dog Press Traveling Road Show.” This was a series of readings, accompanied by “interpretive dance” (the dancers all turned out to be authors as well). Many of the readings were from the upcoming anthology, International House of Bubbas, the latest in the series which began with Bubbas of the Apocalypse. For the record, this series would provide an excellent humorous Deadworld for All Flesh Must Be Eaten, or possibly a setting for d20 Modern with Blood and Brains.

Another highlight of the weekend was David Cherry’s Artist Guest of Honor presentation, which included not only a retrospective of his work, but also a practical demonstration of how Photoshop can be used as a tool by artists working in traditional media.

Every panel I attended was enjoyable. Many were aimed at the aspiring writer, but there were quite a few directed purely toward fans.

Rounding out the mix were some more unusual bits, like the acoustic musical performance by editor Patrick Nielsen Hayden of Tor Books and author Steven Brust, and the unscheduled fencing that went on in the courtyard, allowing authors the chance to beat on Yard Dog editor Selina Rosen.

Photos of the con can be found here.

In this exciting new roleplaying game, you and your friends will take on the roles of mighty barbarians from the icy North, sweeping down to the Southlands to loot, plunder, and cavort.
