Jedi Crystal Cave "Instanced Quest"

I just read quite a bit at that now infamous lightsaber history web site (www.thelightsaber.com ) which seems to have a reasonably good collection of data and unique lightsaber designs based on films and EU history.  I noticed the following statement in there and instantly thought this would be a significant improvement to our dilemna with obtaining crystals.  If we could have this as a "crystal quest" that is "instanced", just think of how much better and more interesting it would be than using our main or having to save up and hawk the auction forums!
 
Often Padawans will go to the ice world of Ilum. There, in a specific cave, the Jedi have harvested rare Adgerian crystals used in the construction and operation of their lightsabers. This can take several days or even weeks. A Padawan can collect crystals and construct them elsewhere but for the full experience they construct them in the caves. Legend has it, Anakin entered the depths of this cavern and was visited by a dark presence. Anakin does not entirely remember constructing this, his first lightsaber but rather was in a trance and given to him by this dark vision.  - source = www.thelightsaber.com
 
What are your thoughts my Jedi friends in the community?

That would be pretty cool maybe be instanced to it once you create your jedi. Just a thought but thats a great idea.

i realy like this post alot... i think there should be a jedi only cave with crystals that can be harvested or gotten by quests.

Thanks for your post. I did a little research on www.thelightsaber.com and enjoyed it very much.   I agree that adding a quest system to constructing a lightsaber is a neccessity. Lightsabers were very personal items and were not somthing that a jedi through together in a few minutes. The process often took as long as a month.  While a month would be far too long to work in SWG, constructing a new saber should be a quest (or series of quests) that requires at least a few hours.  This process should be different for light/dark jedi.
 
The idea for having a saber stored on a belt when equipped is also a good one. Jedi did not walk around holding their unignited lightsabers.

Good idea.  They have also added this in other games like KOTOR where you go and gather crystals.

I like the idea of it being instanced.  It could be made so only Jedi can obtain the required pass key / ticket whatever to enter the cave.  But could take a group of friends to help like the Corvette.

One problem would be the BH camping outside to gank Jedi as they came out... just a thought.

interesting idea... I'd like to see more instanced quests, but i suppose as others have said, jedi arnt going to get too much attention other than this revamp. At least not for a few months I'd say.

A nice idea, but if you watch the Clone Wars mini-series ( all given the thumbs up by Lucas Film) the crystal cave on Illium was destroyed by The Emporer's minions some 20 years before this game is set.

I do agree there needs to be a better way to obtain upgrade components.

as for it being "too much work", they already have plenty of tilesets to build a cave with.. it doesn't have to be all that big of a cave.. and now with the corvette, they have instance code to use..

The trick would/will be to find a way to get noob Jedi (and existing ones, which is tougher) to run the quest with no saber to start. I would think keeping the current crafting of a training saber in place would be reasonable, and have the trainer give a WP to the start of the saber quests.. Then have them get schematics/components on the way to make a "nice" saber (better materials makes a better base saber, etc) that works on manufactured/looted crystals.. that gives the equivalant of 2nd gen sabers.. Personally, I would also like to see a way to get better and better parts to keep upgrading the "base saber", mostlikly by running the quests over and over but finding some way to keep making it harder and harder.

Once you can make your "second gen" saber, you get info on the instanced cave with "excellent" crystals.. Send the Jedi in and have them find/fight for the crystal(s) they need.. then have them build the saber in the cave. The tuning in the cave and assembly there should give bonuses (some ppl will grab a crystal and rush off, thus not getting the full bennifit.. not sure why, but I know some will ). That would be our "final" saber. If they want to keep decay on the crystal, that's fine. Gives the excuse for running a base set of missions/quests to get back in the cave (maybe the current cave crystal is required for admintance?) to get another crystal..

The design/balance is what would take the longest. Once that is done, the "instacned cave", even if just for cyrstal supplies, should be easy.. say 2 wks for one dev.. The more content added (parts/multiple runs/etc) the longer to develope, obviously.

Hell, instance the Crystal Cave on Dantooine as it is.. that should be easy enough.. and set the exit to some random drop on the planet to prevent BH camping.. not that I think it matters other than for them getting names, but. They can spawn mobs in the cave with what they think is appropriate for that level Jedi.

As has already been mentioned, the caves on Ilum have been destroyed. Of course, an alternative instanced dungeon is still a good idea.

It's a great idea!. Which is why i suggested it a few months ago in the Jedi revamp thread. Who can say if it was ever read though? Probley lost in the massive thread were no dev dares go.

Anyhoo this would be nice, would be fun to encounter unique npcs in there too. Some "force sensative" npcs who were drawn to the cave. Perhaphs they attack you as a challenge.

Nice idea, we already have the cristal cave on dant with a huge rock blocking half of the cave, the easyest way i see this hapening is making the rock "door-like", like in the geonosian where you can pick a key or use a force power (force push anyone? ) and go trought the door but the rest of your group have to find a key or use a force power too or stay out
