We daily receive many many emails with questions about how to download the games and
various problems related to downloading. To make it easier for both you and our staff,
please read these instructions before you download your games.
Look at the file format of the game you are about to download. It will either be a .exe
file or a .zip file (for instance tetris.zip or tetris.exe).
In rare cases you will find .LZH compressed games, which not all zip programs support. However,
the zip program we recommend on Gamehippo can handle LZH formats too. If the game is a .exe file, then
you simply run the file when the downloading is complete and that will automatically install
your game. If the game is compressed (.zip file), you cannot run the game until you have first
unzipped (uncompressed) the file. For this you will need a zip program. There are many free
zip programs you can use. At at our frontpage we have a mention about a free zip program under
the section FREE UTLITIES (click on the hippo logo to return to the frontpage).
Install the zip program before you start downloading games - unless you
already have a zip program installed.
Remember the name of your download folder. It can be a hassle to find your downloaded
game if you don't remember where on your harddrive you downloaded your file. A good idea is to
create a new folder called for instance C:\downloads where you put all your downloaded files.
This also makes it easier when you scan for virus - you only need to scan this folder.
Always check for viruses! Although our staff has check every game for virus at the time of
review, the file may have changed since then.
Notice the filesize before you download. Some games are very large and may take hours to download.
On rare occations, you may find a dead link. We ask you to please notify us if
you encounter a dead link to a download.
You may not be able to run all games on your PC that you download from GameHippo.com.
Some of the games require another PC configuration than your PC (more memory, faster video
card, no 3D video card etc).
The game you download may not be completely downloaded the first time. This may be due
to the server where the game is or because your momentarily lost your Internet connection.
You may not even like the game you downloaded. Apart the fact that we all have different
taste, look at the review rating of the game. If you read 1/10 or 2/10 then it's more likely
that you will find this game boring than for a higher rated game.
