MISSION STATEMENT
To promote the health and well being of our Métis
children and families by building on the capacity of our Métis community through the
provision of culturally sensitive and appropriate programs and services.
PHILOSOPHY
We believe children, with secure and caring guidance of
family and culture, grow into healthy adults wanting to make a meaningful contribution to
the families, communities and societies to which they belong. We are aware of the wreckage
that occurs when these systems of support break down. It is our belief that the Métis
children that come into care, or who appear to be at risk within the Child
Welfare system are the responsibility of our Métis community. We believe the involvement
of family and community is essential. The hope and convictions of Métis Local 1885 is
that mutual goals can be realized through the combined cooperative efforts between the
various levels of government and the Métis community.
MANDATE
Métis Child and Family Services (MCFS) receives its mandate to
deliver services to Métis children and families directly from the Métis community
through its recognized political authority, the Métis
Nation of Alberta Association. MCFS is governed by a Board of
Directors; changes and decisions are made in consultation with the Métis community
through forums and annual meetings.
