Check out COURSES! We are looking for teachers, course designers, and of course students.

If you are interested in teaching any course, or adding information to any course, please register and then send Dennis Wier an email indicating your interest and the subjects you can teach.

We are interested in meditation and hypnosis teachers of all persuasions! For example, sufi, Buddhist, Chinese, Native American, shaman meditation teachers are welcome to have their own courses represented here. Hypnosis teachers including medical, NLP, coaches and others can have their own courses represented here. Why such a wide variety? Because all use trance in some unique way!

We are also open to all traditional and non-traditional magic and magick teachers, including OTO, Gardnerian, Tibetan and stage. Why such a wide variety? Because all use trance in some unique way!

We are also open to all traditional and non-traditional music and music teachers, including electronic as well as acoustic. The varieties are too numerous to mention. Why such a wide variety? Because all use trance in some unique way!

We hope that we will have a lively forum as all participants (teachers as well as students) discuss their techniques, beliefs (ah, there's a trance!), and results!

What we are not interested in are traditional educational courses such as business management, anthropology, nuclear chemistry and photo-optics and the like - unless, of course, some connection to trance can be made. We are however, interested in courses in advertising and manipulation.

We aim to keep student fees as low as possible. We strive to keep a fair and open -- that is to say, transparent -- fee and payment structure. We are a non-profit, 501(c)(3) tax-exempt educational foundation, and we welcome your participation on all levels.

For all questions and proposals, please communicate with the Director, Dennis R. Wier.

The Trance Institute and the Trance Research Foundation promote education and scientific research on trance phenomena using a specific model for trance. This model is precise and can be applied to a wide variety of trance phenomena including meditation, hypnosis, addictions and charisma as well as art, music, and "subtle" psychology. The Trance Institute does not promote the use of drugs, and is not a cult in spite of the use of the term trance in its name.

The goal of The Trance Institute and the Trance Research Foundation is to promote a general public awareness of trance phenomena and to encourage the personal development of trance virtuosity through open research, study, education and inner exploration and experimentation.

You will find various papers on this site explaining the model for trance as well as some of its implications. You are invited to use the information on this site, to quote it in papers provided you cite the source. The model is more completely described in the book Trance: from magic to technology. Please email a complete copy of any papers to the Trance Research Foundation Email contact .

When you understand what a trance is and how it is used as well as abused, your new understanding will have profound effects in your personal inner life as well as in your business, cultural, religious, institutional and intimate social relationships.

The practical implications of the trance model provides a basis for good trance engineering practices. Individually, it may provide you with an effective defense against trance abuse.

Applying the model to practical situation initially requires a bit of assistence. How can you be certain that the meditation group you attend is not manipulating you? Is the charismatic leader in your religious group using hypnosis? Are there effective and ethical ways to make sales in your business that do not involve trance abuse? Are you in an addictive love relationship? Addiction is also a trance and there are effective ways to break addictive trances. The Trance Institute offers private consultations for the specific needs of individuals, businesses, cultural, and religious institutions.

If you want to learn more about developing trance technology, you are respectfully invited to explore a closer relationship with us by adding your name to our confidential mailing list.

These online papers will give you more detailed information. If you have questions, feel free to email.
