Upgrading your firmware

Hopefully by now you will have downloaded the firmware file you need and will be looking now to create a firmware upgrade disc for your DVD player or recorder. If you've landed on this page directly you may want to go back to our download index and follow the steps set out there first.

This section of the website talks you through the processes involved in creating firmware upgrade discs. Thankfully for all of Sampo's DVD players the process is the same, irrespective of the model number, although the files you need for each machine will of course be different. Make sure you have the right file by checking the player product checker and follow the steps.

However, for DVD recorders the procedure of creating an upgrade disc is slightly different, dependant upon the model number. Owners of the Sampo DVE-R5 clones follow one procedure, owners of OEM versions of the DV-R88ATN another, and owners of the Procaster recorder yet another. There are also instructions to update the loader firmware installed in your DV-R88ATN, to increase compatibility with some discs.

To check which procedure you need to follow, go back to the recorder product checker.

Firmware upgrades sound scary, but believe us they're not, as long as you take your time to read the instructions and follow the steps to the letter. We have heard of many visitors who have not followed the instructions and trashed their players. Take a short time out to thoroughly read this section before putting your newly created disc anywhere near your player or recorder !
