Politician, since 1977 activist of the Hungarian minority living in Slovakia. Politically engaged since 1989, one of the founders of the Hungarian Christian Democratic Movement of Slovakia (MKDH, March, 1990). Between 1992-1998 Deputy Chairman of MKDH for international relations. Since the establishment of the Hungarian Coalition Party (June, 1998) Chairman of the Christian-Conservative Platform. At present, Deputy Chairman of SMK for international relations, Chairman of the Ministerial Council.
Since 1990 - Member of Parliament, in 1992-1998 chairman of the MKDH Group. In 1995-1998 - Member of the Permanent Delegation of the Slovak Parliament in the Council of Europe and also Member of the Joint Committee of the European Parliament and the Slovak Parliament.
Since 1998 Member of the Slovak Government, chairman of the following advisory bodies and ministerial councils: Government Council for National Minorities and Ethnic Groups, Committee of Ministers for Drug Abuse and Drug Dependencies, Government Council for Regional Development, Committee for Fight Against Racism, Government Council for the Third Sector, Government Council for Sustainable Development.
