6/14/2003: Hamas: "Ceasefire" Not in the Dictionary

Once again, Hamas and Islamic Jihad say they intend to continue slaughtering Jews.

"Hamas is rejecting any call for ceasefire under occupation," senior Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantisi said in Gaza City. "The word ceasefire is not in our dictionary. We are being attacked, the Palestinian people, our land, our religious sites are being attacked by Zionist terrorists. This is a situation of self-defense and we will continue to defend ourselves."

Islamic Jihad also rejected the proposal, describing it as "trick".

"What is a three-day ceasefire? Will he [Prime Minister Ariel Sharon] start shelling again after three days? If there is no clear position on ending the occupation and releasing prisoners, we will go back to the cycle of violence," said Mohammed al-Hindi, a spokesman for Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip.

"Sharon's proposal looks to us like a trick for international opinion, but in the meantime we are the ones being hit," he said. "We reject this ceasefire."

There are a LOT of words that aren't in Hammas' dictionary.

#2   Zachary Cohen  6/14/2003 07:59PM PST

Such as "sanity"

#3   Amos  6/14/2003 08:00PM PST

Try "Humanity".

#4   Zachary Cohen  6/14/2003 08:01PM PST

BTW, I am almost done writing something on Hamas similar to the Rachel Corrie post above (or to the right - whatever). I will wire my Zionist money to LFG.

#5   Michael Gersh  6/14/2003 08:01PM PST

To Rantisi, "self defense" means to murder the children of those who don't agree with your political positions.

#6   dan rudy  6/14/2003 08:06PM PST

Well, even if "ceasefire" isnt in their dictionary i suppose they will soon learn the meaning of the phrase "dead motherf@#$ing terrorist"....

#7   Kylaer  6/14/2003 08:07PM PST

I have two things I'm hoping for. One, that Sharon and company actually have the willpower to continue their attacks on Hamas until they are destroyed. Two, that Bush, the State Department, and the U.S. in general will realize that Israel is reacting the same way we would, and let them do it without interference.

#8   UziDoesIt  6/14/2003 08:09PM PST

According to the Washington ComPost, Rantisi is not a terrorist, but rather, a famous politician.

Of this editorial, The Wall Street Journal states: "In an editorial so fatuous it could have appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post opines that 'Mr. Rantisi is not himself a combatant.' He 'represents a movement that engages in terrorism,' the Post allows, 'but his specialty is media interviews, not suicide bombings.' And Osama bin Laden is but a video star."

See for yourself

#9   reaganite  6/14/2003 08:09PM PST

It's my understanding in a combat zone that cease fire is a two way street. If both sides stop shooting no one gets shot. If one side decides to keep shooting guess what? Hamas is going to keep getting a missile up the ass courtesy of the IDF.

#10   Dom  6/14/2003 08:10PM PST

He should have explained sooner. Somebody get him an English dictionary.

#11   Charles Johnson is my lovechild  6/14/2003 08:11PM PST

What the hell is Bush waiting for? Its going to take a Hamas/Islamic Jihad/Hizballah/Fatah sponsored Sept. 11th for Bush to wake up and reject these Nazis over in the Middle East.

#12   capitalist  6/14/2003 08:16PM PST

#9 Amen

#13   J.D.  6/14/2003 08:17PM PST

Rantisi was on Geraldo a few minutes ago in a telephone interview, "lamenting" the deaths of Palestinian children. Footage of organized demonstrations. Bizarre.

#14   Elizabeth  6/14/2003 08:20PM PST

"...we are being attacked, our land, our religious establishments...."???

What religious establishment, pray tell, has been attacked?

Not that it matters and who cares what they say! They can dish it out but they can't take it.

That's it! I luv hearing this stuff. Keep it up Sharon--don't stop now! Hit 'em and hit 'em hard!

#15   UziDoesIt  6/14/2003 08:21PM PST

#11 Lovechild (Love your nic. Ever hear Mojo Nixon's Debbie Gibson is pregnant with my two headed love child)?

Its going to take a Hamas/Islamic Jihad/Hizballah/Fatah sponsored Sept. 11th for Bush to wake up and reject these Nazis over in the Middle East.

I've been saying this for a year. 9-11 is ancient history for way too many of us. The carnage attributable solely to the Islamic reprobates is just something that goes on in some abstract "over there".

I think that as long as bombs aren't blowing up in Times Square or in the Smithsonian Americans will be content to sit this out and watch Laci 24/7.

Once it starts happening again over here it may be too late to do much about it.

#16   Model4  6/14/2003 08:25PM PST

Sure ceasefire is in your dictionary. Muhammed was perfectly happy to enter into one, which he violated in bad faith. This sterling example from the warlord's life is used to justify similar lies today, as quoted by Arafat.

In the unlikely event that the US and Israel don't go wobbly on fighting Hamas, they'll start getting arrested by the PLO (think "protective custody"). Hell, if Israel isn't expected to let terrorists serve their time in jail, the PLO will be glad to let them out in the first perceived slight two months later. It's happened before.

#17   Elizabeth  6/14/2003 08:28PM PST

While we're on the subject of Rantisi, does it boggle anyone else's mind that this ogre....this ugly, grizzled TROLL is a PEDIATRICIAN? That just astounds me. Who in their right mind would take a child to see a doctor who looks like that. The kid would burst into tears screaming of fright! He's totally horrid looking!

#18   UziDoesIt  6/14/2003 08:34PM PST

#17 Elizabeth

Good point. Why does it seem that every third asshat in these countries is a "doctor"? What do they have to do, draw Winky on a matchbook cover to become an MD?

"DR." precedes Aiman Zawahari (sp), Bin Laden's lieutenant, and, IINM, the female impersonator Hanan Ashrawi gets called "Dr." occasionally, but it may be because she has a doctorate in inciting Jew hatred.

#19   Lou Falconetti  6/14/2003 08:34PM PST

Until a firm date is set for Israel to withdraw from the territories...

More Dead Jews.

#20   UziDoesIt  6/14/2003 08:38PM PST

#19 Lou

Sorry. You're wrong.

It's not the territories that's getting Jews killed. That's just the Arab excuse.

Until Israel gets serious about killing every terrorist leader and disarming the population, there will be more dead Jews.

Anything less is just a feel good pipe dream.

#21   Paladin  6/14/2003 08:41PM PST

#19

Until Islamofascism is destroyed--more dead everybody.

#22   Alex de Large  6/14/2003 08:53PM PST

Lou: Are you a spokesman for Hamas and IJ? Or just a bombastic idiot?

#23   UziDoesIt  6/14/2003 08:53PM PST

Paladin

I think it shoud be taken further. The following was posted the other night and I agree with it wholeheartedly:

Every time a suicide bomber hits Israel, fire a missile at that person's home. Blow up his family. That should end the spate of suicide bombings. Permanently.

Every time Israel is shelled, shell back at least 10 times that amount.

Every time an Israeli is killed, kill 10 Palestinian Arabs.

Do not hesitate to blow up a mosque or two after a large attack.

The objective of the State of Israel must be to defeat the Palestinian Arabs, nothing less. The only way to achieve that is to drive them all into utter despair, to convince them that they will never win but will always lose. The only way to send that message is to kill enough of them.

If peace can be achieved, then go in there and put a "Marshall Plan" of sorts in place and rehabilitate them the same way we did with Germany and Japan. But first defeat them. Disabuse them completely of the notion that they can ever achieve anything through violence other than their own miserable deaths.

#24   mickthemick  6/14/2003 08:56PM PST

If there is no clear position on ending the occupation and releasing prisoners, we will go back to the cycle of violence," said Mohammed al-Hindi, a spokesman for Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip.

What difference would it make, Mohammed? If the occupation ended tomorrow, and Israel released every terrorist in its custody your thirst for Jewish blood would not be quenched. Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the al-Aqsa Terror Brigade would not cease their attacks. Israel might as well cut to the chase and take you completely out of the picture.

#25   UziDoesIt  6/14/2003 09:02PM PST

Lou, it ain't the territories, the settlements, or anything other than Arab hatred of Israel and their desire to see that country destroyed.

See Kill a Jew for Allah

#26   capitalist  6/14/2003 09:10PM PST

19 Lou writes:

Until a firm date is set for Israel to withdraw from the territories...more dead Jews

Now, that is funny. Really funny. Just give Hamas, PIJ, AL Aqsa Martys, et al, a date that you will pull out of the territories and...no more killing Jews. Just give them a date for their palm pilots and for the first time in 3,500 years they won't be killing Jews.

Oh, if only you were right, Lou. If only you had a clue.

I thought that's what I said.

However, your numbers are much too low.

Add a couple of zeroes and let's get it done.

#30   CLIO  6/14/2003 09:33PM PST

To No 19 and his fellow amnesiacs, here is a chronological sequence --

1967-1993 -- Israel is in full administrative control of Judea and Samaria (integral parts of the Jewish National Home)

there is occasional terrorism, on a sporadic basis.

1993 on -- Under "Oslo" Israel yields administration of some of these areas and of Gaza to the PLO.
Since then, 98 percent of the Cis-Jordan Arabs live under the rule of the PLO, not of Israel.

Terrorism zooms. It is no longer sporadic but constant.
It is no longer personal but organized, with the PLO incitiang training and perpetrating the terrorism --
BASED IN THE AREAS FROM WHICH ISRAEL WITHDREW

Logical conclusion -- Israeli withdrawals produce more terrorism, not less.

#31   Haiku  6/14/2003 09:39PM PST

#17 Elizabeth

I agree, this terrorist scum is so hideous looking that I nearly gag when I see him. The other "leaders" of Hamass are also monsters. Are most "Palestinians" this ugly? Maybe that is why there are so angry.

#32   Caton  6/14/2003 09:59PM PST

*Sigh* I feared that... from Guysen:

07:47 The IDF is about to leave the north of the Gaza strip, control of the region to be transferred to the A.P. security chief, Mohamen Dahlan.

An Israeli idea, apparently.

#33   Caton  6/14/2003 10:08PM PST

For our non-Israeli friends, here is a map that shows where are the Isreali townships in the disputed territories, including the Gaza strip. And this site presents the Jewish communities in the Gaza strip quite well, IMHO.

#34   Teacake  6/14/2003 10:12PM PST

Seems odd (not really any more) that every news show the past couple of days is just so so surprisesd about hamas's revelation, as if this is some sudden new twist. I never thought there could be so many "normal" people who make Charles Manson seem quite sane.

#35   Teacake  6/14/2003 10:19PM PST

Elizabeth ~ last week I was watching the book show on CNN just to see what Michael Moore had to say, Madeline Albright was one of the guests as well speaking about her book... she was talking about this one time at Camp David when her grandson was there for some reason. WHen the baby woke up, arafat happened to be in the room, near the baby. The baby looked up at him and started screaming his little head off.
------------
What I want to know is why on these news reports it is never mentioned that over 100 terrorists were let out of jail as part of a show of goodwill toward the monsters.

#36   Caton  6/14/2003 10:21PM PST

Charles,

I think the site I linked to above, Gaza Coast: A Photoessay, should be seen by your readers. It is really good to get a feel of what's life like for the Jews in the Gaza strip.

#37   James  6/14/2003 10:29PM PST

"What I want to know is why on these news reports it is never mentioned that over 100 terrorists were let out of jail as part of a show of goodwill toward the monsters. "

Good point. The Israelis are suckers. What the hell did they release them for?

#38   Caton  6/14/2003 10:34PM PST

#37 James

...because of threats of boycott on weapons, ammo & military spare parts by the White House.

#39   James  6/14/2003 10:39PM PST

Caton,

Why doesn't Israel go public about White House threats?

The American people are pro-Israel. The American Congress is pro-Israel and they have multiple tools for breaking a president's balls when they want to.

#40   Caton  6/14/2003 10:44PM PST

#39 James

Israel did go public, and there were a couple of articles about those threats, both linked to on this site. The media decided it was not newsworthy.

#41   Tamar  6/14/2003 10:46PM PST

Hamas speaks the truth!!!

So why is it that Bush, Sharon, and others keep attempting to mislead us into believing that Hamas and the PLO can be "negotiated with" and is capable of compromise??

"The word ceasefire is not in our dictionary."

You know what? I can't find it in mine either!

#42   zulubaby  6/14/2003 10:48PM PST

Tamar (#41)

Nice catch. LOL!

#43   Tamar  6/14/2003 10:51PM PST

The Israelis are suckers. What the hell did they release them for?

We call them "Friers' (Suckers), and being deemed a "Frier" is the worst nightmare of every native born Israeli. We are the world's biggest suckers----and we'll continue to pay for our "frierism" until we wise up, if that ever happens.

Tamar

#44   James  6/14/2003 10:51PM PST

#40 Caton

Are you sure about that?

Well what about AIPAC, are they asleep?

What about us American Jews, why are we asleep?!?

#45   CastorOil  6/14/2003 10:53PM PST

#36 Caton, thanks for the excellent link. It really makes a difference in how you see the sttlements as more than just dots on a map.

#46   James  6/14/2003 10:56PM PST

"We call them "Friers' (Suckers), and being deemed a "Frier" is the worst nightmare of every native born Israeli."

I know that. Agree with the rest. Fact is that America only has the ability to pressure Israel because of the aid we give Israel. Without it, Israel would be free to do whatever it likes and what would we do about it, invade Israel? Nonsense.

I think it's in Israel's interest to start figuring out how to get itself out of 'owing' America.

The terrible thing is that not only do Americans really support Israel, it's almost as American as apple pie. So who the hell gave our president and our State Department the right to sit on Israel's head and let Arabs kill Jews?!

Ever notice how much Europe hates Israel? Well Americans supporting Israel is one of the ways we define ourselves as better, wiser, more moral and more dedicated to freedom and democracy than the craven Europeans are.

#47   Teacake  6/14/2003 10:58PM PST

Tamar, I suppose Bush speaks the truth as well after stating more than once last week that "the saudies" are our friends. Chilling.

#48   James  6/14/2003 11:01PM PST

What ever happened to Bush being an Evangelical Christian and a personal friend of Sharon and blah blah blah?

All I can say is, 'לב מלכים ביד ה.

#49   Tamar  6/14/2003 11:11PM PST

#46 James

know that. Agree with the rest. Fact is that America only has the ability to pressure Israel because of the aid we give Israel. Without it, Israel would be free to do whatever it likes and what would we do about it, invade Israel? Nonsense.

Absolutely correct! Netanyahu planed a phase-out of US "Aid" to Israel, and reduced the "Aid" from 2.9 billion to 2.5 billion per year before he was tossed from office.

Anyway the US "Aid to Israel" loans (Not Grants such as the 2 billion given to Egypt each year) are really just diplomatic sleight of hand --- providing the illusion of U.S. compliance with the Arab boycott of Israel---thus pleasing the Saudi masters, while still continuing a thriving weapons and logistics business with Israel.

The "Aid" should be ended--and all business should be done in the open, in full view of the world----and screw their opinions and boycott!

Tamar

#50   James  6/14/2003 11:15PM PST

I should point out, Tamar, that it is illegal to comply with the Arab boycott in the United States. Companies can and have been penalized for attempting to do so.

Laws like these are passed because Americans are pro-Israel and almost without exception taking a pro-Israel stance in most parts of the U.S. is one of the least controversial politicalstances for a politician to make.

In any case, we've got to do something about the traditional presidential Israel screwing.

#51   Alex de Large  6/14/2003 11:20PM PST

#33 Caton: Thanks for the link! I just spent the last hour browsing through that site. Very educational. I had an opportunity to visit Gaza when I was in Israel back in 1999, but blew it.

Everyone who wants to know the geography of the Gaza Strip should visit http://www.gazacoast....

(warning: the link to gushkatif.org brings up a gay porn site )

#52   Caton  6/14/2003 11:28PM PST

#44 James

Are you sure about that?

Yes, I'm sure. I posted one of the links myself.

Well what about AIPAC, are they asleep?

That particular bunch of pussies is very busy doing nothing, as usual.

What about us American Jews, why are we asleep?!?

Well, now that you mention it, I was asking myself the same question... Care to answer it?

#53   Tamar  6/14/2003 11:29PM PST

James,

You are of course correct--but the Alan Cranston legislation is basically unknown to the American public, and generally ignored by the US Goverment.

http://www.bxa.doc.g...

Interfering with thew actions of private or publically traded businesses goes against contemporary American dogma concerning "Free trade".

Fact is that America only has the ability to pressure Israel because of the aid we give Israel. Without it, Israel would be free to do whatever it likes and what would we do about it, invade Israel? Nonsense.

Forget the aid. It's not really important. The real threat is an embargo on spare parts for F-16s and Apaches. Just what the French did in 1967.

#55   James  6/14/2003 11:35PM PST

#54 Caton

Just what the French did in 1967.

Yeah, but remember what the Israelis did in 1967.

As far as answering your question, I'll get back to you when I figure it out. Don't count on me figuring it out though.

In 1957 Israel bowed to the pressure and did not annex Yesha, nor Jerusalem.

1967. Idiot.

#58   James  6/14/2003 11:42PM PST

#56 Caton

Yeah, but they kicked Arab booty. And there's no Soviet Union today.

It seems awfully pathetic that Israel is giving up the ghost for some spare parts for airplanes they're not allowed to use.

#59   Caton  6/14/2003 11:46PM PST

#58 James

Without the Falcons and the Eagles, Israel would be an easy prey for the Arab League. We need those planes.

#60   James  6/14/2003 11:49PM PST

See my point about '67. How'd you do it then?

#61   Caton  6/14/2003 11:53PM PST

#60 James

I said that before... The first step is to stop the Arab propaganda. No access to Israel or the disputed territories to any media who spews lies. Sue them for libel in any suitable court, in any country. FORCE them to carry Israel's POV at least as much as the Arab lies. Once that is done, there's a chance of progress...

#62   Outsider  6/15/2003 04:52AM PST

#61 - Caton

No access to Israel or the disputed territories to any media who spews lies.

The problem is... there are no western journalists there.

ALL of them are... palestinians.

Just look at the photo credits of Reuters/AFP/AP...
"Ahmed","Abdullah","Mohammad","Nabil","Marwan"...

Western journalists buy their work for pennies and distribute it as their own "investigative journalism".
And if they were to be kicked out of Israel proper, you can be certain the Israeli left fifth column will be more than eager to assist them.

"I wonder, but aren't american jews solidly left?"
Yes.

"does socialism trump their religion? Is socialism a stronger religion?"
For many, yes.

The diaspora syndrome is a big factor. It manifests itself as a desire to fit in, to blend, to just be like everybody else. One, otherwise very pleasant, Jewish lady told me, with a straight face, that she doesn't like being identified as a Jew. "It's a demeaning word."
Their perception of being "fair" is to bend over backwards to defend the "Paleos" & criticize Israel.
An erstwhile good friend, who is Jewish, began avoiding me when he discovered that I'm Zionist.

Mind-boggling. And very sad.

#65   Colt  6/15/2003 06:28AM PST

"Just what the French did in 1967."

Was it 67 or 73 when the French decided to stop selling Israel Mirages? Then Mossad stole the plans and built their own version?

Or is that just some fiction I read in an airport lounge?

#66   James  6/15/2003 06:52AM PST

#65 Colt,

That was in '67. France refused to ship the planes that were already paid for just as the ME began heating up. So the Mossad "borrowed" the plans (which fit into a trailer).

#67   Geepers  6/15/2003 07:56AM PST

Thanks for the info. Reason-to-hate-France #12653...

I want to ask American Jews AND My Government why they have not expressed OUTRAGE at the continuing threats against Jews in particular. Starting 15 years ago I would hear... A..News Story(One Story which would promptly go away) about one or the other Alahabet Soup Pal or Islamic Terrorist groups vowing to MURDER Jews all around the world and Hi Profile American Jews and later just Jews PERIOD.

Do you imagine you could have several countries vowing to whipe out African Americans and NO ONE saying a word about it or making it a huge issue?

What in the F**K is going on? Where IS my Govent proclaiming for ALL to hear, that this is UNEXCEPTABLE...BIGOTED..HIDEOUS...NAZI-LIKE?

Eh...why is my GOvent doing business with any of these Countries that these terrorists are alligned with? The fiction that these groups are not connected with NATIONS..Specific Nations.. is a flat out lie. Plausable Denieability to the extreme.

NOW..America isnt saying much either about the threats to ALL Americans. Has my Govnt and my Nation LOST ITS MIND? Do they not realize what is going on in the mind of a significant portion of the Islamic World? Are we committing SUICIDE? as a Nation? Or what?

Personally I think it is time to SCREAM bloody murder about these "games" that are going on..set up by American and European Arabists and the State Dept. Hellooooo...Thats where ALL the attention should be focused on. NOT to change this is NOT to be the Supreme Country in the world..REAL SOON...Sooner than you think.

Oh, but NPR (and WNYC) refers to Hamas, IJ, et al. as "militias." I kid you not. As if they are comparable to the Minutemen in Concord in 1776! I guess that National Palestinian Radio has decided that it's too harsh to call them "militants," let alone the "terrorists" that they are.

I wrote them a furious letter asking them what it takes to call people who deliberately set out to murder men, women and children in buses and in their beds (and whose deeds are then celebrated in the streets and by proud parents) terrorists.

I also told them that I was going to encourage everyone I know not to contribute/renew their memberships and not to listen any more. This post is the first intallment in carrying out my promise, although I doubt there are many NPR listeners here anyway.

 frank says:

Ever try to have a conversation with someone on drugs? It just doesn't work... -- Sometime during the summer of 1987, when asked by a DC reporter, "what are your feelings on the war on drugs?" His first response was to criticize the inherent invasion of privacy, followed by the above statement against drug use.
