Ian McKellen (Magneto from the X-Men films) and Alfred Molina (Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2) have both signed on to co-star in Ron Howard’s adaptation of The Da Vinci Code, according to Variety. The film version of Dan Brown’s best-selling novel will star Tom Hanks as Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, who uncovers intrigue within the Catholic church. Molina will play Bishop Arigarosa, who’s interested in the snooping of Hanks’ character, while McKellen will appear as Sir Teabing (not Teabag, mercifully), a rich fellow who supports Langdon even while he hopes to uncover the Holy Grail himself.
The film, which is based on a script by Akiva Goldsman, is set to start production in June for a May 19, 2006 release.
