Shire Players’ Theatrical Organization Thread XXV:
A Step Closer To Our Dreams

Greetings, theatre lovers! Check out our Kingdom Page, to see how we work here and what we are all about -- then join right in on the fun we have here! We may work hard, but we have the best time entertaining our beloved Middle Earth .... and goofing off between cues.

Section 1 - Actors and actresses

  • Full-time actors and actresses: Roleplay their actions onstage during performances. They shall also have training sessions, in which they improvise a sketch.
  • Extras: (You can sign up to be either a full time extra, taking many small roles often, or sometimes I shall hold a thread in which other hobbits can audition to play a small part, but not have to become continuously active with the organisation.)

                                                                               Section 2 - Direction
  • Director: Oversees all work and makes constructive comments – Starts new threads.
  • Co–Director: Does generally the same job as the Director.
  • Stage Prompt: Is onstage at performances to give hints to performers if someone forgets lines and also makes sure that everyone can be at the performance and organises stand-ins.

                                                                       Section 3 - Script Developers
  • Script writers: In charge of writing new scripts to perform and adapting existing ones.
  • Character Developers: Write an in-depth description for each character in each play for reference.

                                        Section 4 - Costuming, Make-Up, and Hairstyling
  • Costume Designers: Design costumes for all the characters in the performances and make them.
  • Make-up Artists: Design make-up for all the actors and actresses and make sure that they are dressed up ready for the performance.
  • Hair Stylists: Design hair- styles for all the characters and make-up the actors’ hair before the performance.

                                                                                  Section 5 - Props
Find or design and construct props for the performances. It is the Head of Props’ duty to put a post following the director’s at the start of every scene – It should describe all of the props and back-drops onstage at that time.
  • Set Designers: Must be well educated in the prop styles needed for the periods in which each play is set.
  • Prop Makers: Construst props from Designer’s ideas
  • Painters/Backdrop Paint back-drop scenes and any props which require it.
  • Please choose one of the above jobs for this section – They work together to create props. Designers start by researching items of the appropriate era and designing props, then architects shall construct them and they are passed on to the Painters for finishing touches. When you finish your part in constructing a prop, it must state clearly in bold in your post which prop you are making and what stage it is at. E.g. Roman vase 3 design completion – ready for architects

                                                          Section 6 - Technicians
In charge of special effects and lighting. At the start of every scene in a performance, the Head Techician must make a post following the props’, describing the lighting and any effects. If there are any changes in the equipment, they must be stated by any member of the Technicians team at the right time during the performance. There are specialist roles available, including sound and light specialists – Please state in your application if you are interested in this.
  • Sound Specialists
  • Music Specialists
  • Special Effects Specialists

                                                   Section 7 - Promotions & Catering

  • Advertisers, or MeMers

Miri walked into the Shire Players, anxious and ready for a new day's work to begin.  She had recieved a rather hasty note from Istya - who had explained that she had had some sort of emergency with her studies and that she was to help watch over the Players.  So that was exactly what she was going to do - she remembered that before they had been working on getting up to par on the acting!

So with a script under one hand and a mug of tea in the other, Miri pushed open the door to the Players and sat down in a comfy chair - ready for everyone else to arrive.

Ava briskly headed for the Pavilion, ready to start another day's work. She'd checked in at the Player's House earlier and she had an idea for what Lal and she'd be doing today. Really, it was Lal's idea, and she'd been excited for it since she heard of its brilliance. Seeing Miriath seated as she entered, she waved over to her and smiled. The elf proceeded to grab her ickly special clipboard and began markign a few things down.

"Good Morning Miri! Ready for a few more acting exercises? And what's this? Istya's not here?" She looked around worriedly, trying to catch a sign of her hobbit friend's presence.

Rosaline opened wide the doors to the Shire Players Pavilion and inhaled the lovely smell of fresh paint, spring, and electricty. Rosa was eager to begin rehearsal today and even more so to share the news with her dearest friends. She spotted Miri sitting in a chair as well as Avarith. Rosa practically skipped over to her friend and gave her a big hug. "Miri dear! How are you? It's been too long really. Aren't you especially glad it's spring? This weather is perfect for a performance of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'..." Rosa's eyes wandered back to the tall elf Avarith. "I don't believe we have met properly. I am Rosaline Took, you can call me Rosa if you'd like. I'm playing Queen Titania and am also an understudy for Theseus. Oh! And Istya dear is away taking care of some emergency business in the Minis Tirith. She should be back in a day or two." Rosa smiled at Ava and took a few steps back so she would not have to strain her neck so much to look her in the eye.

Miri smiled when both Ava and Rosaline entered. "Good morning!" She said to both of them and when Ava questioned where Istya was she said, "Istya had an emergency in Minas Tirth, as Rosaline told you, - she sent me a hurried letter that I was to watch over the Players while she was away!" She exclaimed. Before adding, "I can't wait, however, to start practicing today!" She exclaimed, happily  While hugging her friend Rosaline back, "I'm so happy it's spring - none of those dreary winter days left now!"

Lal was about to complete Ava’s assignment that she had given the Acting group, but was abruptly cut off by Istya. Needing a place change, Lal grumpily assented to a move to the Pavillion. Lugging all of her material was quite a challenge, and Lal was quite the unhappy hobbit when she arrived back at Shire Players. Bumping into Miriath as the lass was enjoying the spring day, Lal smiled but was taken aback upon overhearing part of her conversation. "Did you say Istya was away? Flighty gal; she was here just a bit ago I thought! No matter, I’m sure you’ll do just fine keeping us all in line. I’ll try to be extra-good!" Chuckling, Lal suddenly stopped and inquired, "Miriath, you wouldn’t happen to have the list of actors and understudies in conjunction with Midsummer’s cast list, would you? It’d be most helpful if you could post it somewhere, or point me to where you have if it be the case. I’m blind as a bat these days, and my memory of such things is no better!"

Miri looked up when she heard Lal speak about Istya leaving so suddenly. "She had some sort of emergency in Minas Tirith," Miriath said, reciting the story that she had heard.  Then when Lal asked her about the cast list she opened her skirt and began leafing through it. "I know I had one...I know I did!" She said, pulling out a stack of papers that had been thrown in with her script. "Aha!" She said triumphantly, holding up the sheet of paper with the full cast on it.  She handed it to Lal, "This is it - hopefully you can read it, since you're so blind these days!" She exclaimed, laughing.

*Entering the Shire Player's Pavillion Starbreeze is brought into the bustling world of the stage! Ahh, this is where she was born to be!  How she loves everything to do with the stage.  Looking around, she sees everyone preparing a production of ''A Midsummer Night's Dream''.  She is immediately interested, and looks around the place for anyway she can join.  Finally locating an application form on a desk, she pulls out a quill and starts to fill it in, and then hands it to the nearest hobbit, who looks to be in charge*

    Name: Starbreeze
Desired position: I am a keen actress, though I would also be interested in working on character devlopment if that is possible
Experience in this area of work: I have directed a pantomime in Isengard a few years ago, I sing in kareoke all over Middle Earth, and I am currently a director of an orchestra in Isengard.  I was also a member of this establishment in my younger days. (Not to mention directing and performing in many plays, musicals, dance shows and operettas over the past 8 years in RL)

RL Plaza Time: I'm not sure how to work it out, but I live in GMT zone and the time when I post this is 12:35 in the afternoon in my time.
Availability: I will be available everyday with a very few exceptions.  Somedays I will be available twice a day, or for about 12 hours.
Sample roleplay: *After the tension leading up to the announcement of the winners, a sense of elation fills Starbreeze's mind, and she cannot help but have a huge grin on her face as she goes to collect her prize.  She returns back stage and shakes the hands of all those who were not lucky enough to win, but when she comes to the last person, the runner up of the contest, she notices that the poor soul is in tears.  Her heart full of sympathy she gives her a huge hug and hands her a tissue with which to dry her tears.*  Aw, my love, there's no need to be upset, you must remember that this competition was judged by just a few people, who may have different standards than others.  I personally think you are the most beautiful here, it was just luck that they chose me over you.  On another day they might have chosen differently.  Don't give up, you are beautiful!
Your ideal role in a play, book or film, OR one that fits your plaza character best: I am a flexible actress but I would love to play the part of Cosette in the musical film of Les Miserables

*Titi arrived in the Pavilion to get to work on the new sets that needed doing. She was working on the backdrops today and so was dressed to paint, in some already paint covered overalls. She'd got the plans for the back drop underneath her arm. She could see that everyone was already at work so waved to Miri, Lal, Rosa and Avi as she headed to the sets work area to get the backdrop painted. She found the canvas for it and spread it out to get to work. She spread her plans out as well and picking up the long stick she used as a straight edge and her pencil she knelt on the floor and began to draw out the basic shape, starting with the stonework design that would for the basic pattern, she sketched out the many blocks of the backdrop*

Weebs arrived bright and early and was pleased with herself when she realized that she one of the first to arrive though Titi was ahead of her.   She felt a bit more sure of what she was doing after her brief meeting with director Istya.   Going into the props room, she was pleased to see that Titi was taking on the painting of the palace backdrop.  That was another job she could now relax about, knowing it was in good hands and it freed Ithil up to finish out the forest scene.  The floor coverings would also need worked on but the courtyard could be no more then rounghed in until the backdrop was blocked in.  She sighed and returned to her work on the white tree.  It didn't take long to mix a bucket of paper mache and blocking all else from her mind she was soon happily smearing the gooey stuff over the tree form she had prepared.  She whistled as she worked, probably annoying everyone else but blissfully ignorant of that fact if indeed she was.  The music made the work go faster.  She smoothed the paper mache as she went so that the bark of the white tree would be all lovely smoothe when she was done.  When her bucket was empty, she washed her hands and went lookiing for Ecaps.  She needed to consult with him about the needed props for the play.

Entering the Player's pavilion this day, Ecaps happened to stop and look at the list of company members which was posted on the wall.  As he does so, he thinks how different that list looks to the company's original lineup.  After all there were only a handful of the originals left.  Sighing, he moves across to the technicians' area in order to check on things there.

Ithil entered, wielding a paintbrush and carrying a can of brown and a can of green paint, ready to finish up the forest scene as they had planned. She headed over to where the canvas hung, ready to begin working on the backdrop. All right...she said to herself...dead leaves and a dirt path, with the leaves matching the color of the bases of the tree props. She glanced over at the tree props. They were green, at least on the tops. Odd...she thought to herself. If they were green leaves, then it would be summer and unlikely for dead leaves to litter the floor. She headed over to Webit, asking, "Weebs, I was wondering about the leaves on the ground for the forest backdrop. If the trees are green and it's summer, would the leaves on the ground just be ones that fell, or the brown and crinkly ones that you usually find in autumn?"

Miri nodded at everyone who was walking into the Players, and felt really overjoyed when she saw that each one of them immediately went to work to help the play come about! This was really going to be a fantastic show!  She then noticed Starbreeze, an Istar, who had just walked in applying for a position. "Hullo! Welcome to the Shire Players!" She said, craning her neck back to get a good look at the tall Istari and smiling. "I'm Miriath, a co-directour here at the Players, though for the time being I am watching over it while our directour, Istya, is away.  Though I am certain that you will get in, we still have to check it over with her first!  Though currently, if you didn't know, we are prepping for our production of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', even though the show has already been cast - you are always welcome to be an understudy/substitute for whoever needs one! Hello Rosa! Ava smiled at the hobbit and bowed her head in greeting, listening to her speak of her part and of the explanation of Istya's absence. She wondered what the director was up to and was hoping she'd finally decided to take a break- Minas Tirith did sound fun! Queen Titania, eh? A most magnificent part! She proceeded to pull out her checkboard and record more information:

At seeing a new actress arrive, Ava remembered Istya's instructions and approached the istari with a friendly smile.
Hello Starbreeze, I'm Ava, the acting head with Lal. We're happy to hear you've joined us! Unfortunately, as Miri said before, we've got our play characters currently filled up, but we'd definitely love to have you warm up with us and give us some of your own thoughts on the acting section! Just head where Miri pointed out and you'll be sure to find us debating some new ideas!"

Ava proceeded to write in Starbreeze's name beneath the list of actors, happy to have another aboard with them.

*Titi looked up as Webits came in and waved at her happily as her sister headed over to work on the papier mache tree, Webit always managed to get cool jobs, not that painting the backdrop wasn't cool but there was soemthing about messing around with gloopy gooey papier mache that was always fun. Titi smiled to herself and returned to sketching out the backdrop. She'd just about done and stood up to take a moment to make sure it looked right. One fo the window arches she wasn't quite happy with so she knelt back down and redrew it until she was.
That done she went and fetched te paint from the stores, she needed white, black and grey moslty, with just a little bit of green. She picked up the pots and a couple of trays and took them over to where she was painting. She set them down and went and got the paintbrushes. First off she needed a nice base grey to work some of the stones in, she poured some white into one of the trays and added a little black, just a dab and stirred that in, it wans't quite dark enough so she added another dab, stirred that in, there, just about right, it would do anyway.
She picked up on of the fatter brushes and began to use the light grey paint to fill in the first of the blocks of stone, starting in the top right corner and doing the basic layer for the main stone wall. She would do the windows, arches, mortor and the cut out later on*

Weebs looked up from her "plastering" of the white tree a Ithil's question.  Only then did she realize that the base leaves had been painted green rather then the mixed golden browns of well aged mallorn leaves that she had intended.  Oh, oops.  We need to fix that, indeed.  It would make sense for there to be an occasional green leaf on the ground but not whole mounds of them.  No the backdrop should have the green leaves in the trees and the golden brown leaves on the floor and we need to repaint the mounds.  We'll also need to do a floor cover that will pick up the same color from the base of the backdrop and carry it out to stage front but coming lighter as you approach the front of the stage.  Simularly, on the backdrop, as you follow the forest floor up and the tree line down to a horizon point, shade things darker to increase the feeling of depth.  Lets leave the mounds for after this is done and we can set them up how they will be on stage and match the areas of forest floor precisely.
She turned back to the tree.  The form was shaping up brilliantly with the paper mache filling it out, showing what was there.  She gave one wire limb a bit more bend to it while the wet paste was still pliable.  She just loved sculpting out of wire.  Those jobs had to be her favorite part of making props.  She stood back and looked at the overall effect smiling, then went back to slapping on the gook.  She needed to finish this tree up.

Daelin walked in to the Shire Players in serious debate with herself- that was put on hold as she surveyed the bulletin board. 'Hmm'ing at the actors/actresses list, she spotted Avarith and walked over to the elven maiden. "Suil, Ava!" she greeted, catching herself as she slipped into the Sindarin tongue. It would earn her no friends to speak her own tongue in other lands. "I've just happened to notice, I'm not on the list for actresses! I'm sure this is just a slight err; Istya may have forgetten to mention it, because I so recently returned." Grinning, she continued, "Anyway, I just wanted to let you know, and so that I can consider this my 'checking in'. I'll be over to practice in just a brief moment- after I hang this on the bulletin board as well." She motioned to a scroll under her arm, and proceeded back to the bulletin board to post the following note for all of those involved in her department:

    Promotions and Catering
Will be starting new activities now. All those in Promotions, we will continue brainstorming our current project, The Pub, in our room in the Pavilion. Please report there as soon as you can. Catering, I have a small exercise I wish us to accomplish for some practice with our talents. Please see me for your instructions. Thank you!!

Hoping that they all saw that, she wandered back over to where the actresses were practicing, entertaining the idea of rejoining props- and then dismissed the idea with a snort. She just didn't have the time right now, who was she kidding!

After creaking the backstage door open slightly, Istya peeked her head in and from there she watched the Players troupe and some of her good friends busy with work before she grinned and closed the door behind her. She had hoped the sound was loud enough for everyone to recognize her entrance, and then she scurried on over to Ecaps to give him a quick, welcoming kiss on the cheek.
"I should have told you, meleth nin, before I left," Istya murmured to him. "But I really did have a sudden emergency on my hands, and I had to head to Minas Tirith so suddenly ... forgive me, dear, alright?"

She was sure he understood, though, and not only that she recognized the worried and busy look in his eyes. So after a quick smile to him, she opened up her arms and then she ran over to Ava, Miriath, and Starbreeze -- both out of sheer happiness to see them and to greet Starbreeze grandly as well.
"Thank you, Miri, Ava," Istya said happily, after giving them both good hugs. "It was sudden grad school work that called me away, actually. So it wasn't all that grand a trip, mellyn nin. Haha, but anyway.
"Starbreeze, it is good to see you here, dear! I am glad to see that Miriath has already welcomed you and told you what is going on. Ah, your application. Of course you may do both acting and character developing. If you believe you have the time, then you are free to do so. And as for our play, our last made it evident that we need a full acting team regardless of who is on the cast list. So yes, go and enjoy acting practice. We will need you there!"

Istya then took a deep breath before she called for the Script Team's attention. "Everybody on the Script Team, please gather over here with me so we can talk about both the script and what we envision for us as the scriptwriting team. Ready? Holly, Ecaps, Falvic, and Starbreeze, let's take some cozy seats now and talk! I'm even allowing us to go OOC with our concerns and ideas."

Ithil smiled slightly. "Ah. That might be why, then. You're doing a lovely job with the tree, Weebs," The Rohir nodded as Weebs explained what she ought to do, and gestured at the project Webit was undertaking. "After I paint the backdrop, would you like me to fix the trees?" she asked, making sure to take in everything Webit told her to do. After taking a moment to digest the information, Ithil thought she basically knew what to do. Turning around, she decided to go search for a proper mallorn leaf color. The golden brown leaves were still fresh in her mind after a recent visit to the beautiful kingdom of Lorien. Going over to the supplies closet, she nosed through the paints. No, too brown, too yellow, ah! Spotting a perfect blend of gold, Ithil hauled it back over to the large sheet of blank canvas. Now on to work, she said to herself. Taking a quill, she carefully drew herself a horizon line and vanishing point to begin with.

*Titi had finished blocking in the main bits of the stone walls in the light grey she was using and leant back to look at the stones. She was going to do the blocks of stones around the windows and arch next and she wanted them to stand out a little from the surrounding stone as features should do. She mixed a little more black into the grey paint she already had so that it was just a little darker and she could then highlight it a little lighter so it would stand out more. Titi liked that plan, she kept hold of the fat bruch and blocked in the blocks of stone around both windows and the door arch, she also used it on the larger stones that made up the base of the wall, as was usually done on large stone buildings. She was sticking her tongue out between her teeth as she worked, being very careful not to touch the still tacky lighter grey paint on the rest of the canvas. It required all her concentration and she had little idea of what was going on around her as she worked.*

While everyone gathered around her after her call, Istya gazed into each one of their faces and then smiled. They, for the most part, seemed reticent to share their ideas and this disheartened Istya. However, at the same, she understood why, and so she grinned when Ecaps gave her the next few scenes.
"Hannon le, meleth," she said slowly before she gave an encouraging nod to him. "And you can go talk with Lau if you wish. You don't need to stay here for the meeting. She may have ideas and most of all questions about the Technical Department. So feel free, dear."

Then Istya got the crick out of her neck, smiled at him one last time, and then smiled at the team. "Has everyone read the script, or at least what we have so far, that is back over at the Pavilion? If not, you can do that on your own time. But we're here to talk about how this department needs to shape up, improve, and become fully functional!"
"In the past, we have had a main writer and an editor of sorts do actual work," she went on. "However, that was it ... and I want your jobs to mean something and to fit your needs. So what sort of job description would you give to a character developer? How would they -- how would you, Holly and Starbreeze -- want to come into work every day and keep yourself busy with some actual work? Falvic, the same goes for you, me, and Ecaps. What kinds of things would you want your director to see whenever she passes by as indicators that you have done actual work here? The floor is open for your ideas! I would love to hear them."

*Titi sat back and checked that she'd blocked in all the colours she needed to have done, she was happy with the basics colour and knew that now she needed to let it dry properly before she filled in the mortor and the highlights that'd make it look like a wall, well she hoped anyway. Titi had never really painted a backdrop before and was trying to make it look like she knew exactly what she was doing, she reckoned she was doing okay so far. She stood up to give the canvas time to dry as she went to wash up the brush she had been using so that it wouldn't go all dry and hard and Webit wouldn't have a reason to shout at her. She passed Ithil and Webit on the way to the sink and stopped briefly to admire their work before she moved on. The brush didn't take long to wash but Titi made sure it was good and clean as she was in no rush as the backdrop still needed to dry, she whistled to the wall as she worked, a nice dreamy tune that she'd picked up from somewhere but wasn't sure where it quite was.*

Webit put the very last finishing touches on the white tree.  Well not really finishing touches of course, as she was still on the paper mache stage of it.  With the last of the wire covered with paper mache, she ran her hands over the still wet slippery form, smoothing the bark overall.  She looked over at the work Titi was doing on the palace backdrop.  She certainly seemed to know what she was about.  That was good.  One more worry off Webit's mind.  She turned back to IthilGood.  I'm glad you are taking over the finishing of the forest.  I know it will be gweat.  You seem to have a verwy good eye for color.  Weebs found a huge fan from som previous play and began to fan the paper mache to make it dry faster.

Ithil flashed Weebs a quick grin before heading back towards the backdrop. She looked up at the canvas. Even though she was taller than the hobbits, the Rohir just realized that the sheet of canvas was quite wide and tall. Taking the lid off the can of brown paint, she began the making of the tree trunks. After much movement up and down, she stepped back, examining her work. The first layer was all set. Now all she needed was for it to dry. While she was waiting, she would paint the golden brown leaves at the floor. Taking another smaller paintbrush, made for more intricate details, she squatted over and began outlining the individual leaves.

"In fact, we seem awfully quiet," Istya said with a bit of a laugh. "So if no one has any ideas off of the bat, why don't I start with my first couple of thoughts? First of all, I was wondering if the rest of us script writers would like to become editors of some sort. Perhaps we could have a few content editors, one grammar and spelling editor, and one continuity editor. I could explain what continuity means if you have not heard of the term. Maybe someone would even want to switch off with Ecaps and write every over scene with him. Would someone like to do that? It would be great if every screenplay had two writers assigned to it. Hmm, what do you all think? Holly, Starbreeze? Would you rather have a hand in that?"

From time to time, Weebs touched the paper mache gently, seeking dryness.  Finally she felt that it was dry enough to paint.  She laid down the fan and went to the paints cupboard.  She dug out a can of white left from a previous project and some cans of pale gray and olive green.  She also got out brushes and a small painter's palate.  She slipped into a pair of coveralls she kept there for painting jobs and headed back to the tree with her supplies.  The stark white would never do on the tree, too bright and unrealistic.  She added the tiniest dab of green to the bucket and stirred it in.  Much better.  The paint still looked white but was muted to a more natural shade.  She began happily brushing this paint over the whole of the tree.  It didn't take long to get a first coat on and while it was still quite wet, she grabbed up her palate and applied dabs of white (a rather large dab of that right in the center), grey, and olive green.  Taking a small brush she began to gently mix the edges of dabs to get subtle color differences, always using a good bit of white.  Satisfied with her colors, she began applying shading details to the tree.

*Titi brought back the clean brush and put it into the pot of brushes to dry out, she drew a thinner one out in it's place and looked at the now dry backdrop, she needed to work in the mortor detail and also needed to get some sense of depth as so far it was looking very flat. She took the grey paint she had already mixed up and added some white to lighten it once again and using the brush she slowly filled in only half of each gap between the stones. The right half on all vertical lines and the bottom half on all horizontal lines, trying to create the effect of a highlight from a light shining as if from the top right of the backdrop, that would work well. Once the lighter side was filled in Titi added more black again to get a grey that was darker than any grey already on the back drop and filled in the other half of eahc mortor line to get the shadow effect there. She rest back on her heels again to look at the effect, hoping it had worked as she intended it to*

Beginning to brainstorm some ideas for their pub, Daelin had been sitting in a corner scribbling her notes on some parchment. When she finally looked up and around, and realized what time it was, she sighed and stood, rolling the parchment into a scroll and tying it with a handy piece of ribbon. Not seeing anybody from her department, she shook her head in despair and moved towards Istya. Loathing to interrupt their meeting, but knowing she had to, Daelin tapped Istya on the shoulder to get her attention. "Suil, Istya! Terribly sorry to interrupt, but I must tell you that I'm going backstage (Pavilion) for a little while, in case you should see anyone looking for me. (I'm actually going to Canada tomorrow (Wednesday) night, so I might be gone from then until Sunday eve. Will be leaving instructions for everyone in my department- please direct them to the Pavilion, thanks! ) Thank you so much! Well, sorry again to bother you. Ta!" With a cheery grin and a wave for everyone, Daelin headed backstage, but not before posting a checklist next to her earlier announcement on the bulletin board.

Miri, happy that Istya was back, wandered back over to where the actors/actresses were holding their meeting. She pulled up a small stool and sat down beside Ava, her script and quill pen in her hand. "So," she said, smiling. "Are we going to do anything, run lines, do some character building excersises?" She asked, mostly because she was now eager and ready to get into the acting mood.  While waiting for a reply, she absent mindedly flipped through her script, pulling out all of the papers that she had stuffed in it into one big pile.

*Having remained silent and thoughtful for the duration of the script team meeting so far, Starbreeze nods in agreement to Istya and Ecap's ideas.*  Yes, I think becoming editors of the script sounds like a good idea.  I personally quite like the idea of perhaps doing some continuity editing, and also adding actions to words.  Actions speak louder than words they say!  *She turns to Holly, Falvic, Istya and Ecaps*  If no one else minds, I'd quite like to do that.

Ava smiled at the two who were asking her of their next activity. She blinked suddenly, a bit startled. She'd not started up an exercise in quite some time! Sighing at herself and standing up, she placed the clip board down and addressed the awaiting actors and actresses before her.

Now then, I've a little exercise for you all to do. Since our performance is coming up, I'd like you all to imagine yourself in your character's roles. Those who don't have characters, choose to be fairies, creatures in the forests, etc. (As long as you aren't a giant oliphaunt trompling everyone down, I'm happy!) Those with characters must use their characters, however.

Your location: everyone is trapped in one single prison cell. There's only enough room to squeeze around eachother.

Time this is ocurring in play: When the couples first enter the woods. Helena loved Demetrius, but Demtrius is in love with Hermia. Hermia and Lysander, madly in love, have run away together in the woods to wed eachother. Oberon and Titania are currently very displeased with eachother, and Puck's always up to mischief. Everyone, have fun and involve yourself with your character! Thoughts, feelings, actions, five sensory descriptions-Let's get down to business!

Rosaline hears Ava's exercise and takes a deep breathe to prepare herself...

Queen Titania squeezes her way through the crowd to the opposing wall from King Oberon. ~If he so much as looks upon my face.~.She balled her fists and whipped her head to the side.~Who be'est this fair mortal maiden?/ Whose eyes doth shine upon anothers transfixe  / Attend thous brave clout, blank whom hath caught the eyes of thine / What fools mort'ls be...fie! Kings of faeries! ~ She glares at Oberon from across the cell. And continues to simmer. The fledgling boy was squeezing her hand and she looked down to see him smiling back up at her. ~Aye, Oberon shall ne'er have the boy. /  Think he wise? Mine eyes hath seen his folly / He thinks the boy is naught but a play toy / The fledgling boy tis fond of mine aff'ctions.
((OOC: The 'what fools mort'ls be' line is meant to stand alone. The others I did spur of the moment in the proper form. Or as close as I could get!))

Vanya joined the other actors, and took a deep breath. Hermia was very different from Vanyahiril, but she knew she could become the character, and this little excersize would help...

The smile that spread over my face welled up from my very soul. We had done it. I, Hermia, daughter of Egeus, was running away with my true love, Lysander, to be married. My heard had felt so much dispare the last few days, with my fathers insistance that I marry Demetrious, whom I do not love, but now, now I am happy. But what is this place, why are we here? There are so many strange beings and people. We had taken hands, so to not be separated, but this close room was beginning to frighten me. We needed to be out of Athens ere the sunrise.

Ava smiled as Vanyah and Rosaline began their exercises. She watched them with a smile spread upon her lips, pleased at how well they were doing with this activity. The dungeon cell was a good element to add in, she thought.

Well done, and do continue, the two of you! The reasoning for you all being in a dungeon cell is up to you all to figure out. Is this one of Puck's tricks? Did Egeus catch everyone in the forest due to suspicions? Slowly build the little story along....

Rosaline, great interaction with others around you! And your expressions and emotions~perfect timing for them all! (OOC:
I lvoe the way you added dialogue/thoughts to yourself- a quick question, however. I was a bit confused on the "/" in the sentences. Any special reason for them?)
Vanya, a brilliant way to add in the backround of the play! Perhaps you can add in some interaction with your environment-how do you feel with everyone so close to you? What if Egeus is in the cell with you? What's he going to think? Or, a fly's suddenly begun to play around you. What do you do?

*Titi was satisfied with how the basic stone was taking shape of the back drop. It looked like a palace to her at least, though how it'd look when it was at the back of a stage was anothing thing entirely, she hoped it would look good. She just had finishing off bits to do as she picked up the brushes and the tray of paint to clean them up thoroughly before she did the next bit. She left the tray drying on the draining board and returned to the paints, pouring out a little forest green into another tray, she added a little yellow but only half mixed it in. Picking up a sponge she used it to stipple some green onto the bottom of the stone wayy and into some of the cracks for the mortor, creating the effect of a smattering of moss so that the palace did not look completely white and bland. She hoped it would work as she stippled lightly, being careful not to put too much paint on*

When Ecaps first spoke up, Istya tried listening carefully to what he had to say and then bit on her lip. "Whoops," she muttered to herself. She had already told Webit that the four lovers would be Gondorians. But before she could say anything in either apology or response, Daelin came up to her with a question and nearly frightened her out of her skin in the process!
Still she turned her head, smiled once she heard her sister's predicament, and then nodded to her.
"Of course!" Istya granted her, letting her head off. "I'll do what I can while you're away too."
So once she gave her a quick hug, she turned back to the group and then finally made her confession.

"Well, to be honest, I've already told the Props Department that the lovers would be Gondorians," she admitted and after she considered what Starbreeze was proposing. "Let me know if you want to change that, though. Or maybe I should be the one to work on the adaptation editing! Hey, that might work, especially if you, Star, like the editing idea. What would you prefer: continuity editing or adding in the action?"

The backstage was starting to get loud, though. She was wondering if everyone could hear her. But at the same time, it was good to hear the group practicing.
Only one thing struck her. Should she be up and rehearsing along with her acting team? Both she and Ecaps had parts in the play. They might need to eventually.

Hearing Starbreeze mention working on adding in the editting and action, Ecaps nods his head before hearing what Istya has to say.  "Sorry Istya, I was uncertain as to where the location was finalized.  I had heard that it was a choice between the Riddermark or Gondor.  Gondor works well for me.  The forest could well be Ithilien then." he says agreeing with the choice and noticing that she is watching the actors in their rehearsals.

Lal couldn’t wait to test her wings on Demetrius. Joining Vanya and Rosaline in the act, she considered jsut how Demetrius might act in a situation like this. She couldn’t attest to necessarily having a firm grip on his character, but Lal could try, nonetheless...

    Demetrius:
So Hermia thought she could get away so easily... Come now, who wouldn’t be stuffy after your fiancee ran off with some scoundrel---willingly? But as luck would have it, here I was stuck in this tiny cell with Hermia but a step away. Well, make that a shove-wiggle away; after he shoved through Helena and wiggled across Lysander, then he’d be next to her.

Thoughts of how exactly to enact his plan of wooing Hermia back to him crossed his mind, but they were crowded out by new questions. How had they gotten into this anyway? Hermia began to look frightened. Perhaps this was an opportunity to offer some friendly comfort! Come to think of it, I wasn’t too comfortable here myself. It was dark, and my seat was beginning to feel rather damp. Mould grew on the walls, and the stench of having so many people crammed together was starting to get to me. Surely everyone here was observing the same circumstances and asking the same questions as I am.

Throwing off Helena’s arm, I ignored her pleas. How could she still foolishly believe that I had feelings for her? Struggling across Lysander, I stopped for a minute. His face reminded me of a snake in light of recent events. Stolen my bride, my love! Whatever reason caused her to turn so strongly to Lysander puzzled me. Was I so grossly ugly or ill-mannered? Regardless, the reasons hardly mattered now. My goal was to reach Hermia, but a slight mishap along the way stalled the whole thing...

<OOC: Ava - Do you happen to know what race I am as Demetrius? Might be helpful to know... *g*>
