Who may use the Taxpayer Advocate Service? If you have an ongoing issue with the IRS that has not been resolved through normal processes, or you have suffered, or are about to suffer a significant hardship/economic burden as a result of the administration of the tax laws, contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service.

What is Systemic Advocacy? The Taxpayer Advocate Service not only helps individual and business taxpayers settle disputes with the IRS, but also tries to repair the larger, systemic flaws that cause trouble for taxpayers and IRS employees alike.
NTA Speaks to President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform. National Taxpayer Advocate Nina E. Olson, along with Commissioner Everson, spoke before the President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform. In her presentation, the NTA testified on tax complexity, reasons for noncompliance, and ways to increase compliance through simplification.
Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP) The Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP) is launching a recruitment drive for new members. Part of the Taxpayer Advocate Service, TAP provides a forum for citizens to make suggestions regarding IRS decision making. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, current on their income taxes, and able to commit about 300 hours during the year to the panel. For more information go to www.improveirs.org.
Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) Program (New LITC Grant Information!) The National Taxpayer Advocate, Nina Olson, has announced, that as a result of increased funding made possible by enactment of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2005, the IRS has opened a supplemental period for accepting LITC applications. Application period is from March 15, 2005, to April 15, 2005.
NTA Delivers Annual Report to Congress !!! {NEW} National Taxpayer Advocate, Nina E. Olson delivered her 2004 Annual Report to Congress today! She states " without a doubt, the largest source of compliance burdens for taxpayers and the IRS alike is the overwhelming complexity of the tax code, and without a doubt, the only meaningful way to reduce these compliance burdens is to simplify the tax code enormously".
