Happy Birthday, Eurovision!
50th anniversary voting soon here
The special show in honour of the 50th anniversary of the Eurovision Song Contest will be organized by Danmarks Radio (DR) on 22 October 2005.

There is great interest in this unique event and the EBU has already received signed letters of intent from members in 27 countries.

Danmarks Radio answered the call for tender in May 2004 to present a concept on how to stage the 50th anniversary of one of the world’s most successful TV entertainment shows. DR's idea "Congratulations" was chosen by the Eurovision Song Contest Reference Group, as it combines elements of the contest’s glorious history with signs of truly modern TV entertainment. In the lead up to this special live televised event, Eurovision Song Contest Fans across the world will be able vote for their favourite songs on eurovision.tv. Fans who participate in the online voting can win prizes and the 10 songs with the most votes will be included in the show!

“Danmarks Radio has proved to be a successful host of live entertainment events. In 2001, the Danish broadcaster, hosted the largest Eurovision Song Contest ever (with 45,000 spectators) and was also the host broadcaster of the first Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2004. "We are confident that DR will do a highly professional job,” said EBU Supervisor Svante Stockselius.

“It is a great honour for DR to be given the responsibility to host this special show,” said Danmarks Radio TV director Joergen Ramskov.
