70th District (Northwest Illinois): Republican Rep. Robert Pritchard of Hinckley was appointed to this seat in November after the death of Rep. David Wirsing. Pritchard, who served on the DeKalb County Board for 13 years, is running against Joe Wiegand, a member of the county board who is also executive director of the Family Taxpayers Foundation. Pritchard obviously hasn't had enough time in Springfield to establish a track record, but based on his local political and community involvement, he looks like he can be a solid legislator. Pritchard is endorsed.
54th District (Northwest suburbs): Republican Rep. Suzanne "Suzie" Bassi has served her district very well. She is a hard-working legislator and independent thinker. She has supported legislation to open up local government to public scrutiny, has championed funding for the disabled and help for senior citizens. She knows how Illinois can get more efficient government and she brings much needed expertise on education issues. Running against her are businesswoman Patricia "Pat" Sutarik of Palatine and Warren Kostka, a Palatine village trustee. Bassi is strongly endorsed.
