There have been problems with image metadata caching recently. Whilst the root problem has been fixed (see Commons:Village pump for details) affected pages will need to be purged to make them show the images correctly. Please check the image description pages before removing apparently missing images from pages.

The 100,000th file has been uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Please help with the distribution and translation of the press release.
The Wikimedia Commons is a project that provides a central repository for free images, music, sound & video clips and, possibly, texts and spoken texts, used in pages of any Wikimedia project. Unlike images uploaded on other projects, images on Commons can be embedded on pages of all Wikimedia projects.
The Commons was launched on September 7, 2004. Currently it contains 12279 collections.
There were 107,685 media files on 2005-05-23, excluding weather and market data.
If you would like to participate actively in the project, read on below. To let other people upload photos or other files for you, you can use the Commons:File upload service or a special program (http://tiredbrain.com/wikimedia/commonplace/).
If you want to quickly learn about uploading files and contributing, see our first steps help file. If you have any questions about the project, please read the FAQ or ask on the Village pump. You can also drop by at #commons.wikimedia (irc://irc.freenode.net/commons.wikimedia) on irc.freenode.net.
The Wikimedia Commons is run by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation (http://wikimediafoundation.org/), which operates several other multilingual and free-content projects. See also Images of Wikimedia projects.
