 » What is DVD Decrypter?
DVD Decrypter is a free tool that allows you to decrypt and copy DVDs to your PC's hard disk. From there you can watch them with the likes of WinDVD and PowerDVD, you can write them back to DVD-R / DVD-RW / DVD+R / DVD+RW / DVD+R DL / DVD-RAM media or you can convert them to VCD / SVCD / DivX for burning onto CD-R / CD-RW.

DVD Decrypter can write most types of CD / DVD images via its 'ISO Write' mode, and it supports all the latest writers (including booktype / bitsetting on many of the major ones - i.e. BenQ, LiteOn, NEC, Plextor, Sony). You can even use DVD Decrypter to erase / format your rewritable media!

Advanced functionality can be found in context menus that appear when you right click on various bits of the user interface. Can you find them all??!!

New ASUS DVD-E616P2 1.08 Firmware! Monday 9th May 2005 Take me to the top, baby!
Well ASUS finally released an updated firmware for their DVD-E616P2 drive.

Although the changelog doesn't mention anything about the problem in the news item below, they appear to have fixed it.

Owners of this drive can get the updated firmware here:

Problem with ASUS DVD-E616P2 Tuesday 29th March 2005 Take me to the top, baby!
It was brought to my attention the other week that the ASUS DVD-E616P2 drive doesn't work too well with DVD Decrypter. (NOTE: turns out it's the drive with 1.07 firmware at fault, NOT DVD Decrypter...)

Being the dedicated developer that I am ( ;-) ), I went out and ordered myself one from Misco.

The drive shipped with v1.04 firmware. This version appeared to work fine. On upgrading to 1.07, strange things started to happen.

Whenever the drive is asked to return the 'Title Key' for a VOB that's not protected (typically the VIDEO_TS.VOB file), it really screws up.

In my testing, when connected via Firewire, the drive errors out with the correct error (ASC 0x6F, ASCQ 0x01).
No problem there, apart from it being a shame it then needs the Disc Key to be exchanged again (ASC 0x6F, ASCQ 0x02). I wouldn't consider a key not being present to be an error whereby the overall authentication process gets reset. Also, no other drives I've got behave in this way.

When connected via USB, the drive can cause bus resets, DeviceIoControl to fail etc. I believe the same is true for when it's connected via IDE. This failure can actually cause the entire OS to hang on some peoples machines - as has been reported in the forum.

So anyway, hopefully someone with contacts at ASUS will read this and pass the info on. If anyone from ASUS wants to contact me regarding the error (or perhaps to see if a freshly prepared 1.08 beta firmware fixes the issue), please do.

Until ASUS fix the issue, I can only advise people to steer clear of this drive. Sorry ASUS!

Anyone who had the problem with 3.5.3.0 of burns just aborting the second you started them, your IDE drivers need updating. They don't currently support locking volumes for exclusive access, which means another program could interrupt the burn and cause it to fail. You have been warned!

As with every new release, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who've shown their support by donating or helping out on the forum.

If everyone who likes my program donates $2 (or whatever they can afford), I'll be able to get more drives working in ISO Write mode and add more exciting new features!

Go on people.... Click the 'Donate' button :-)

Anyone know?! Saturday 22nd January 2005 Take me to the top, baby!
I've just come across this whilst searching Google: DVD.Decrypter.v3.5.2.0.WinALL-HLWITYTN

Would anyone like to own up to being the one who posted a (cracked?) version of a FREE program?! lol, it makes me laugh just to think about it.

I'm guessing it was cracked (not sure what!), played with, something - because the setup exe is not the one I released. I just hope everyone running it has checked their machines for viruses / spyware etc!

Is there no policy on nuking stuff that people get for free anyway?!

Please people, don't be stupid, download it from here. At least then you can blame me if there is anything wrong with it!

'The parameter is incorrect' error in 3.5.0.0+! Friday 3rd September 2004 Take me to the top, baby!
After a little investigative work, I've narrowed the problem down to some part of the Via Hyperion drivers.

If when you look in Device Manager at your CDROMs, you find they're all listed as SCSI instead of IDE, it's because you've installed the old 3014 miniport driver.

Well, that or the IDE miniport - it's hard to find a definitive answer!

Basically something in these drivers is causing one of the Windows DeviceIOControl API calls to return invalid data which then means programs (mine included) don't work as they should do.

It's up to you how you solve it; remove the driver (miniport?) and moan at Via to fix it (recommended!) OR go into the settings and on the I/O tab, put 'Transfer Length' on 'Manual' - '32 K'.

Please Note: This 'work-around' is ONLY for people getting an 'The parameter is incorrect' error the second they start reading / writing a disc. It's much better to leave it on 'Automatic', so if you're not sure about what you're doing, go and ask for help in the forum.
WARNING!!!   Take me to the top, baby!
I just want to take this opportunity to let you all know about the amount of 'RIP OFF' DVD software out there.

It has come to my attention that the following DVD Compilation packages just provide you with a bunch of FREEWARE tools and some lame guides written by the companies themselves or some decent ones that they have stolen from places like www.doom9.org.
  • CopiesAnything
  • DVD Copy Decrypter
  • DVD Copy Pro
  • DVD Cutter
  • DVD Echo
  • DVD Maximum Pro
  • DVD Squeeze
  • DVD Wizard Pro
If you've paid for any of the above, you've been ripped off and should ask for a refund instantly.
