Free Wool Sweater Soaker Patterns!

Here are instructions for making your own old fashioned wool soaker out of a recycled sweater. Choose a sweater that feels soft and is made of 100% wool. Lambs wool is a great choice! Wash and dry your sweater in HOT water to shrink it up as much as possible.

cut the sweater open at the side seams and remove the sleeves so you just have one panel and cut it into this triangle shape. You will use the waistband of the sweater for the waist of the soaker, only upside down!

Next, sew the waist band of the sweater as shown. then, bring your new seam to the center & bring the point of the triangle up to meet the end of your stitching. Sew each side 3 inches as shown.

Now, use the cuffs of your sweater to make leg cuffs. Stitch w/ right sides together

Turn your cover to the right side

Fold over the leg cuffs and you're done!

And the soaker on the cutest baby in the world (only 9 days old :o)!

This pattern also works for wool jersey. Just cut the piece of felted wool jersey into the same shape as the sweater piece. Then make a waist band either by folding the top edge over and making a casing or by adding a casing with a strip of fabric. I would run a piece of elastic inside if you are using jersey since it's not as stretchy as the sweater would be. I would add a strip of fabric to each leg to make a casing rather than trying to hem. I will try to add pictures, but Im not making any promises as to how soon. With 2 little ones, I rarely find time to sew :o)
