COATS & CLARK'S RED HEART BABY WOOL, 3 Ply, Art. E.284, or NYLON, Art. E.268: 3 skeins (2 oz. "TangleProof" Pull-Out Skeins) of No. 1 White for all sizes, and

COATS & CLARK'S RED HEART POM. PADOUR, 3 Ply, Art. E.278: 1 skein (1 oz. "Tangle- Proof" Pull-Out Skeins) of No. 217 Lavender for all sizes.

Clark's O.N.T. Plastic Crochet Hook No. 3.

GAUGE: 6 sts make 1 inch; 5 rows make 1 inch.

BLOCKING MEASUREMENTS:

Size 6 months: Chest: 18 inches. Length from shoulder to lower edge: 9 inches. Length of sleeve seam: 6 inches.

Size 1: Chest: 20 inches. Length from shoulder to lower edge: 10 inches. Length of sleeve seam: 6 1\2 inches.

Size 2: Chest: 22 inches. Length from shoulder to lower edge: 10 1\2 inches. Length of aleeve weam: 7 inches.

Directions are given for Size 6 months. Changes for Sizes 1 and 2 are in parentheses.

SACQUE

BACK ... Starting at lower edge with White, make a chain to measure 15 inches. lst row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * across until there are on row 55 (61, 67) sts. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn.
2nd row: Sc in first sc, * skip next ch, dc in next sc, working over dc, insert hook in ch-1 sp just skipped and pull up a loop to the height of the dc, complete as for an sc. Repeat from * ending with a half dc in turning chain. Ch 1, turn.
3rd row: Sc in first half dc, sc in next st, * ch 1, skip next st, sc in next st. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until piece measures 6 (6 1/2, 7) inches, ending with 2nd row. Ch 37 (39, 43) for Sleeve. Drop yarn. Attach another ball at opposite end of last row and ch 36 (38, 42) for other sleeve. Break off. Pick up dropped yarn and make sc in 2nd ch from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 ch, sc in next ch. Repeat from * across ch, ending with ch 1, skip half dc, sc in next st, ch 1 and complete row in pattern, working over other ch to correspond. Ch 1, turn. Now work in pattern until piece measures 3 (3 1/2, 3 1/2) inches from first row of Sleeves, ending with sc and ch-1 row. Break off.

LEFT FRONT . . . Starting at lower edge, make a chain to measure 8 inches. Work in pattern as for Back until there are on row 31 (35, 37) sts. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn. Work in pattern as for Back until piece measures 6 (6 1/2, 7) inches, ending with 2nd row of pattern, ch 37 (39, 43) for sleeve. Turn. Continue to work in pattern until sleeve measures 2 (2 1/2, 2 1/2) inches, ending at sleeve edge.

To Shape Neck: lst row: Work in pattern across to within last 8 (10, 12) sts. Ch 1, turn. Continue in pattern until sleeve measures same as on Back. Break off.

RIGHT FRONT . . . Work as for Left Front until piece measures 6 (6 1/2, 7) inches, ending with the 2nd row of pattern. Drop yarn. Attach another strand of yarn at opposite end of row, ch 36 (38, 42). Break off. Pick up dropped strand and complete to correspond with Left Front.

Block to measurements. Sew shoulder and sleeve seams. Sew sides and underarm sleeve seams. With right side facing, work a row of sc around all edges, making 3 sc in corners. Join and break off.

COLLAR . . . With Lavender, make a chain to reach around neck edge. lst row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
2nd row: Draw loop on hook out to measure 1/2 inch, insert hook in back loop of first sc and draw loop through, ch 1, and draw loop up to height of previous loop. Make 2 similar loops in back loop of each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
3rd row: Picking up front loop only, make sc in each sc across, increasing 5 sc evenly -to inc 1 sc, make 2 sc in 1 sc. Ch 1, turn.
4th, 5th and 6th rows: Repeat 2nd, 3rd and 2nd rows. Break off. Sew in place.

CUFF (Make 2) . . . With Lavender, make a chain to measure 7 1/2 inches and work as for Collar, omitting increases. Sew in place.

BONNET

Starting at front with White, make a chain to measure 12 1/2 inches. lst row: Work in pattern as for Back until there are on row 73 sts. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn.
Cotinue in pattern until piece measures 5 inches, ending with 3rd row of pattern. Break off. With pins, mark the center 25 sts. Attach yarn to first pin mark and work in pattern across to second pin mark. Ch 1, turn. Continue in pattern until piece measures same depth as side of front piece. Sew center back to sides. With right side facing, attach White and sc around neck edge, holding in to measure 7 1/2 inches. Ch 1, turn.
Next row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat last row until sc rows measure 3/4 inch. Break off.

LOOP TRIM ... With Lavender, make a chain to measure 12 1/2 inches. Work as for Collar, omitting increases. Sew in place.

MITTENS

SIDE (Make 2) . . . Starting at center of palm with White, ch 13. lst row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, (ch 1, skip 1 ch, sc in next ch) 5 times; ch 1, in next ch make (sc, ch 1) 6 times and sc (tip of mitten), ch 1; working along opposite side of starting chain, make sc in next ch, (ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next ch) 5 times. Ch 1, turn.
2nd row: Work in pattern as for
3rd row: Work in pattern as for Back, increasing 6 sts at tip of Mitten-to inc 1 st, make sc, ch 1 and sc in same st.
4th row: Work in pattern as before. At end of 4th row, work a row of sc across short end. Ch 3, turn. Dc in each sc across. Break off.

Place wrong sides together and working through both thicknesses in order to join them, attach yarn at edge of cuff and work sc closely around to corresponding position at opposite side. Break off.

LOOP TRIM . . . Make a chain long enough to reach around wrist of Mitten. Work as for Collar, omitting increases, until 2nd row has been completed. Break off. Sew to edge of Cuff.

CORD (Make 2) . . . With Lavender, make a chain 12 inches long. Turn. Sl st in 2nd ch and in each ch across. Break off. Sew to each side of Sacque at neck edge.

Make 2 more Cords, each 16 inches long and sew to each side of Bonnet. For Mittens, make 2 Cords, each 13 inches long, and lace through wrists and tie.
