Steve Coogan KNIVES OUT FOR COOGAN'S MOVIE

Steve Coogan's Hollywood debut has received a critical mauling - though his acting escaped the worst vitriol.

Around The World In 80 Days, in which he plays Phileas Fogg, has been branded 'dumbed-down', a 'moronic farce' and 'an exceedingly lame vehicle for Jackie Chan', the martial arts star who plays Passepartout.

USA Today said: "Coogan's renowned dialect skills can't make the movie any more interesting".

"The New York Post called the $100million Disney film 'disgraceful'."

And the Winnipeg Sun said: "Coogan plays his role with dry wit and sarcasm that gives the movie a little flavour and some life between the punchouts."

The sternest criticism was in the New York Post, which called the $100million Disney film 'disgraceful' and said: "Coogan [is] a painfully unfunny British TV comedian whose "acting" is limited to endlessly widening his eyes and arching an eyebrow."
