TightVNC is a free remote control software package derived from the popular VNC software. With TightVNC, you can see the desktop of a remote machine and control it with your local mouse and keyboard, just like you would do it sitting in the front of that computer. TightVNC is:

  • free, GPL-licensed, with full source code available;
  • useful in remote administration, remote customer support, education, and for many other purposes;
  • cross-platform, available for Windows and Unix, compatible with other VNC software;
  • well maintained and being actively developed.

If you would like to learn more about TightVNC, consider reading this short introduction. Also, check the documentation pages where you will find answers to many important questions.

Announces

[Jul 6, 2005] TightVNC 1.3dev7 development version is available. This is the Release Candidate version - it should become next stable release with no major changes.

[Jun 15, 2004] DFMirage hook display driver for TightVNC 1.3dev5 is available. It greatly improves performance of the Win32 TightVNC Server, so it's a recommended update if you run the latest development version of TightVNC. Once installed, the driver will be detected and used by the Win32 TightVNC Server automatically.

[Dec 19, 2003] Screenshots of TightVNC 1.3dev3 viewer are available here. Each screenshot has a description of new features it illustrates.
