Foster's and Mark Webber: two great Aussies

One of Australia's brightest young stars on the motor racing circuit, Mark Webber, has already won the support of the country's leading international consumer brand, Foster's.

Webber, now confirmed as the official test driver for the Arrows team, will wear the Foster's logo on all headgear, and become an ambassador for the brand around the world, under the terms of a sponsorship deal signed in Melbourne.

Foster's, which earlier this week announced a new ten-year sponsorship deal to support Grand Prix worldwide, is the official beer of the Australian Grand Prix and the naming rights sponsor for the British Grand Prix and the Belgian Grand Prix.

"Foster's is a brand which has grown at a remarkable rate around the world in recent years, keeping pace with the spectacular growth of Formula One Grand Prix," Rick Scully, Senior Vice President, Foster's International, said.

"Obviously, the excitement of Grand Prix racing is one very important element in the brand's growth, but we never forget that the brand's Australianness is central to its success. This sponsorship of a fine young Australian driver gives us the opportunity to combine our sport and our country - and do something really worthwhile for a talented individual."

Under the terms of the sponsorship, Mark Webber will act as a pit walkabout guide for Foster's at selected international tracks, will wear the Foster's logo on his helmet and caps, and will wear a race-suit carrying the logos for all Formula 3000 International Championship races.

"We are proud to be associated with a driver of Mark's calibre," Mr Scully said. "In his nine years involved with motor racing, Mark has already shown himself to epitomise everything Australians value in sport - dedication, performance and, let's not forget, a typically Australian sense of fun. I am sure Mark has a great future in front of him."

Mr Scully said it was not usually Foster's policy to provide support for drivers, given the strong presence of Foster's signage and product at Grand Prix tracks around the world. "Mark is an exception for us - he is a great young Australian who we believe deserves, and would benefit, from our support," he said.
