The R.E.B.E.L Program (NYC)

The first orientation for the R.E.B.E.L Program (Rallying, Educating, & Building Effective Leadership) was Sunday May 15, 2005 at Hunter College TH305B on Lexington Ave. btwn 68th & 69th Street. Next Orientation: June 4, 2005 Saturday.

We will be discussing the future of the R.E.B.E.L Program. Get to know the folks who will be working with the R.E.B.E.L Program and have a good time talking, listening to music, playing video games and eating & drinking. The program is for youth 15-22 yrs old.

There are three components to the program:

1-Leadership & Self-Determination

2-Education of Hip-Hop Culture & Music Business

3-Resources for Youth (towards leadership & artistic goals)

A few Modifications:

In order to meet the demand of accommodating youth in all boroughs we will be reorganizing learning sessions and trainings. The program is twice a week. Men and Women over 22 years of age may volunteer to participate and assist in the program.

The R.E.B.E.L Program was developed by L. James founder of Grassroots Artists MovEment (G.A.ME) to encourage youth especially, Black and Brown people to run for office.

THE PURPOSE OF G.A.ME

The Grassroots Artists MovEment (G.A.ME) was spawned with the need to consolidate power with the Hip-Hop community by building a HIP-HOP UNION. At the same time the need for empowerment is prevalent within the Black and Brown community. The two groups correlate in various ways. Although HEALTHCARE is lacking throughout the U.S. Black and Brown people find it more difficult to access quality healthcare in their own community at a disproportionate rate to Whites; and most artists do not have healthcare because the music industry has a policy of not insuring artists. Hip-Hop was created by both the Black and Brown community. It makes sense for G.A.ME to unionize artists and organize the community to utilize the rich resources of Hip-Hop culturally and financially to improve our livelihood. That's our goal!

The name Grassroots Artists MovEment (G.A.ME) has become an anomaly since we go beyond empowering the artist community. G.A.ME organizes youth and the Hip-Hop community to prevent juvenile detention, jail recidivism and we raise youth leadership to a higher level. A main objective of G.A.ME is making healthcare accessible to the poor working class community in urgent need.
