The development of life support systems for Marsville is a major concern for the settlers. It is important to understand how these various systems operate on Earth before plans are made for the operation of similar systems on Mars. What affect will lower gravity have on the designs? How will the natural resources on Mars be used effectively? These types of concerns need to be addressed before the explorers leave Earth!
The Canadian National Marsville settlement will be made up of several thousand colonists. As space explorers, you will need to gather information about the different life support systems that operate within your local community. During the first part of this investigation, you will have opportunities to collect resource material from many sources across the country. This can then be shared with other teams who are developing a similar system at another location. This will ensure that the most appropriate systems will be developed for the Marsville communities.
Each habitat team will gather information about their life support system from a wide variety of resources and share their findings with other teams across the country. For example, the water supply team in British Columbia, a coastal province, might locate very different information about how water systems operate than a water supply team in Saskatchewan, an inland province. Online mentors will provide support for all teams through the discussion groups on ENO/REO.
